I've got We Bare Bears on in the background, and some background music comes on ripping off AC/DC's Back in Black but distinct juuuuuuuuuuuust enough so they don't have to pay the band royalties. That's fairly common. But in that spot in the riff where that cool lick on the high strings comes in, I shit you not, they ripped off the lick in Joan Jett's version of I Love Rock N Roll. They inserted a rip off of one artist right into the middle of a rip off of a completely different artist. I don't think I've ever heard that before. I mean, maybe in medley form, but they'll play at least a whole section of one artist and at least a whole section of the other artist, this was inserting one artist into THE MIDDLE OF THE RIFF of another artist. Like, what?

It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon and you are indoors paying attention to an episode of We Bare Bears.

Go outside and look at your phone screen in nature.

It's fucking hot outside.

And I wasn't paying attention to We Bare Bears, I was paying attention to an AC/DC rip off. xD

Although, now that you mention it, if I sit out back and play on my phone... maybe our outdoor cat will jump on my lap like she used to when I would take a break from mowing the lawn.

I really wish she was an indoor cat. :( She's such a sweetie.

I do that sort of thing all the time.  I'll hear a tune backing a commercial or cartoon or something and think, "hey, that's _____ by _______."  Then I'll play the song just to be sure and there'll be just the slightest variance.

That's not QUITE what I'm talking about. This is extremely common in TV and movies because they want to use certain popular songs but don't want to pay the artists and label royalties, so they change it up juuuuuuuuuuuuust enough it's not violating copyright laws if they don't pay them.

Why this particular instance was significant to me is that it was like sound alike inception. They inserted a Joan Jett lick into an AC/DC riff, instead of copying just AC/DC, or just Joan Jett, or even one after the other. They ripped them both at the same time!

I have no idea what any of this is about.

Any of this? ANY of this? There's no way you don't know who AC/DC is or what song Back in Black is. I just don't believe it. Cartoon Network banked on their gen z demographic knowing it, you gotta know it too. :P

sort of off topic but I had that problem where I had a tune in my head but it was only the guitar riff and I could not for the life of me remember the song... then it randomly played on a TV show

Lately a commercial has been featuring another one of their songs with some riffs I really like.

There's this little passage in an Every Time I Die song that's just like the opening riff from Mastodon's Blood and Thunder but they did just enough with it to be unique.

I'm not really into any kind of metal, but i did hear on NPR that a fan of Every Time I Die got hit in the head with a bottle at a show, got it checked out and found cancer.

It was on wait wait don't tell me.

Fuck I'm such a nerd.
