We can memetically pretend we hate Pop Team Epic all we want

A lot of the hate for that show is because many think "being cliche = bad", but the truth is, you can have a show that's jam-packed with tropes of all sorts and have it still be a hit. I felt that way about Megalo Box; the content of the show is your typical "average Joe tries to become a boxing champion", but how everything is presented elevates it into an excellent production. On the other hand, BC's animation and composition leave much to be desired.

I still don't understand the "PPTP doesn't have punchlines" argument, but considering that this thread has taken a political turn, I'll probably flee it forever before I try to answer that again.

Really? What was the punchline in the Skyrim sketch? How about the Chrono Trigger sketch? Keep in mind I only saw 15 minutes of material from this show, but from what I saw it's just randomness without punchlines.

What was the punchline here?

We don't speak of that.

It's every speaker that doesn't perfectly align with ultra left wing college views.

Maybe because American conservatism has a persistent disinterest in being educated?

Maybe because not all opinions are equal?

It's not like we have equal, comparable proof of creationism vs evolution. Facts support evolution. People have the right to believe in creationism, but the fact of the matter is it isn't an equally supported concept so it shouldn't be taught like it is.

Or should we start teach flat earth conspiracies on the same terms as, you know, real science just because in some people's opinions the earth is not a sphere?

People like Milo, strictly speaking, should not be given a platform at any respectable university. He's free to think what he wants, but the utter cunt that he is has been known to publicly harrass students in his presentations. He had a fucking slideshow dedicated to a transgender student whom he bashed for 20 minutes for trying to use the women's bathroom and left with the concluding statements of "if you see this person, make sure he knows he is a horroble person."

So really, fuck any campus that chooses to create a liability for their students by hosting that massive sack of shit.

Like, these are the people who get shut down. Fucking dumbass Milo and neo-nazi Richard Spencer. Boohoo, cry me a river, bruh.

1) When PTE first came out, I dropped it after one episode. I didn't hate it. I just knew I wasn't the kind of audience it was seeking. I know who this is for.

2) I rather limit my political thoughts here to just jokes. Not that I care to offend. It's a given, anyways. Cynical apathy. World keeps spinning. Leave people to their own devices and vices. I have anime episodes to riff.

Yeah people are already complaining, I won't talk about it any more here.

What is the audience exactly? People stoned out of their minds? I enjoy some offbeat zany comedies but I just feel like PTE doesn't really work in what it's trying to do. I watched a clip of the "funniest" moments from the first 6 episodes and yeah... it didn't get better for me.

I just don't understand the mentality of "I don't think this is funny, so no one thinks this is funny." Your opinion is not fact.

I don't understand your constant need to overuse hyperbole every time you post. At no time did I say no one thinks PTE is funny. The entire premise of this thread was that we all secretly love PTE. A lot of people dropped it after 1 episode.

I think of PTE as Shitposting: The Anime. It may not be accurate to say that, but I view it that way. I don't have any issue with shitposting, but I think you'd have to be obsessed with it to truly enjoy PTE. Which is fine. It's just not my kind of enjoyment. Apples and oranges.

I view Pop Team Epic as desperately asking viewers to "Please Screenshot this," to post on Twitter, in place of an actual joke.

I look at PTE as a refreshing breath of "something" in the midst of all the hardcore shonen action. Kinda like a Rumplemintz shot when you've been drinking beer all night.

I don't disagree with the idea, because yeah, the shounen has kinda gotten out of hand (or maybe BC just makes it feel that way with being too over the top). I guess I recognize that it's pretty much always been all shounen. But would it kill them to get something more in the vein of Black Lagoon once in a while?

Idk. I'm just biased and personally want something with a little more depth than what we're getting.

Ha that was actually one of the reasons I finally dropped HxH. It gets sidetracked VERY easily. It literally interrupts one of the better arcs to have the characters go antiquing. One minute it's a big city heist anime next minute it's SAO.

Is under 400k for PTE really fine? I mean, it's airing right after two shows with really bad retention and still only getting 80 percent. It basically proves that you can get around 400k viewers by airing static.

Sports anime ain't neva gonna fly in the US. Neva eva. That's just the people in charge not understanding the difference between what they like in Japan and what we like here. Ping Pong the Animation is amazing though, everyone should go watch it.

I'm gonna say that the thing that did the most damage to the block was actually Dragonball. Years of attracting a Dragonball  oriented fanbase is going to pretty much cripple the block when Super stops airing.

So Hiatus is still directionless?  Glad I dropped it when I did LOL.

Clearly it needs to be there as the mid-block anchor. :P Demarco has become as stubborn as Vince McMahon at this point.  "You'll watch Pop Team Epic in this timeslot and you'll like it, damn it!" (Vince voice)  Like, even if you have to have Pop Team Epic (can't believe I just wrote that,) what is wrong with it being after Naruto?  You don't experiment to such an extreme degree with valuable slots that could derail the rest of the block.

It's because anime is mainstream in Japan.  People who like sports in Japan watch sports anime.  But anime is niche in the U.S. and watched by nerds and most nerds don't like sports, so they don't watch sports anime.  Also Prince of Tennis is shit.

I love Dragon Ball, but you're right.  It's a gateway anime for lots of people, for me, it was "I hate every anime but DBZ," but many people clearly never got past that point.  People didn't leave Toonami (or ASA) in droves after Bleach! -_-  Hell, Demarco said ASA would've gotten canceled before Toonami ever got a chance to come back, without it.  If only Kubo hadn't been screwed over by Jump!  And by the by, barely anyone watches Shippuden (if it was expensive like One Piece, it'd be gone,) as evidenced by its position on the block, a great fall from its prior prominence when it premiered.  Most people watched it online already or moved on from Naruto entirely.  The same thing is going to happen with Boruto, just you watch.  I told you you shoulda got Fairy Tail, Demarco!

As long as we're venting, I do have a list of shows I didn't want Toonami to air. Super used to be on that list until I discovered some episodes I really liked, most of them coming during the Future Trunks arc. I HATE Naruto and Boruto, but ... heh... well I got BANNED on the Toonami Discord chat for just saying that. Tokyo Ghoul can continue enjoying the death that it so loves very much. Casshern Sins turned out to be a total bore, sorry.  I ditched Black Clover in a admittedly over-dramatic reaction once it introduced a love triangle as the final straw. And I am not going to fuckin watch hours and hours of GUNDAM just to understand Unicorn.

Naruto needs to go away, period.  It wore out its welcome.  Shippuden is stuffed to the hilt with filler, and the actual canon story takes a shitty direction, despite some decent moments and arcs.  Now when I re-watch Naruto Part 1 it's not even as good as I remember, and I don't even have the excuse of being a kid when I first watched it making me think it was better than it was lmao.  Tokyo Ghoul is bad and no it wouldn't be good if they did it like the totally good manga.  Casshern held promise, but it derailed itself towards the end with some wasteful episodes, then rushed the ending which was a disappointing troll.  But yeah boring too I could see, heh.  Aww but Black Clover is charming.  I like it. :P Oh, understanding Unicorn wouldn't make it good, trust me. :D I'm familiar with the Universal Century series and all of them I've seen are cliche, pretentious, tryhard, sappy, and melodramatic, starring emo crybaby protagonists.  Mikazuki was a breath of fresh air (and non-UC series,) but of course they had to go and ruin that with the second season...
