The 1998 Grand Cherokee I bought for $2,000 in 2014 and re-sold 40,000 miles later in 2016 for $2,000... is now being given back to me for free. It has some neglect since I've had it, and MAYBE an added 10,000 miles, which puts it right around 170,000ish. It's good for another 130,000 miles due to it being a 4.0 and the transmission actually lasting (thanks to my installed Ford Explorer transmission cooler in 2014.) It still runs, drives, and is tagged and registered... my mom is driving it to my DE place from PA and parking it there until I can come get it. It\ll be nice to have power heated leather seats, an awesome part-time/full-time 4x4, the best year the 4.0 was built, and... I kept the M62 supercharger I had planned on bolting to it a while back.

And here it sits... neglected, dirty, this was taken before I replaced the mirror for him while he owned it, about a year and a half ago...

One of my favorite memories... I ordered new ceramic pads and racing rotors for it (because of fast driving and towing heavy things) due to my pads being worn out. They were not kept in the warehouse at my job so I had to wait a week. I drove at minimum 300 miles a week... and I used my brakes hard. The aftermath:

I slept on cherokees until i rented a 2016. It was so fucking nice. Damn near luxury. Too big tho which is why i got the crossover.

93-04 Grand Cherokees are the size of your average crossover though.

Not sure what this is based on, but the engine is a beast. It's already set up for most off roading, if not all... With exception to like rock climbing, but it could if I wanted it to...

Oh I wouldn't doubt it... They are stock ready for offroading. Haven't seen much yet that I would like to do tho... It's 2019 but the existing stuff would work.

Yep... over the past 5 or so years Jeep has really moved forward with capability.

Rock rails:

They take the place of that cheap plastic thing that there now.  Fiat makes one for the Cherokee.  You can also get them from the one aftermarket company that makes stuff for the KL, Rocky Road Outfitters.

(You can also get a 1" lift kit)

You'll see more aftermarket stuff for the Renegade for now due to it being Panda-based, but now that the Cherokee has gotten a nice face lift and has gained some popularity, it won't be long until it gets more off-road stuff coming its way.

Eh.  It's been about five years and that's been enough time for the KL people to band to get a lot of the basic stuff into production.  The first three of so years I had my KL, there weren't any lift options, and the early winch / brushguard set ups were rife with production errors.  Now that we're finally seeing some consistency, the facelift has made a timely appearance and renewed interest, hopefully bringing more KL owners into the fold.

The Dobinsons kit looks sweet.

But for real, it's hella reliable, the drivetrain is very strong, it has every option you could get, and I have a fuck ton of good memories in it.
