Every doctor I had who ordered blood testing, until today, had insisted, "fast".  Fast meant, "FAST"  not even coffee until after the testing.  This one I met today?  Has to be the different one.

She asked, even before she mentioned another blood test, whether I had eaten.  I told her I had coffee in the morning and tea later in the day.  No trouble, I guess.  She sent me to the lab within the hour for another round of "find the cholesterol".

Now, I get to find out whether coffee or tea really do change the numbers.  Doctor showed me the last reading and I was a bit high on triglycerides.  Not much change in diet.  Still with the red meat.  But, will my number rise or fall?  I'll see in two weeks when the result is in.

It takes two weeks to get lab results on a basic metabolic  and lipid panel?

That is a very long time.

They probably have it already.  The equipment is on premises.  But, this is the union's clinic and so it takes two weeks just to get an appointment.

Conspiracies factor into the odds.

I've never been told to fast before blood draws.

And have to have blood work more frequently than the norm. :|

I guess it depends what's being tested.  For cholesterol and glucose, I had always been told to undergo a minimum eight hour fast.

Whenever I get a blood panel done, they tell me not to eat beforehand.  I'm not sure how important it actually is, but some doctors still tell you do to it.
