discolé monade Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 so i have degenerative arthritis. yay the last couple months, my hip has been acting like an ass. to the point i thought i fractured it. doc. ordered xrays, but when i got up to the VA yesterday, the tech said she ordered some bone density scans. wth does that mean? why would she want that for some bone spurring flare up? the good news is i have water therapy for 8 weeks, 2x a week. hopefully that will help. but why the special scan?

It would be odd, but not unheard of, at your age, but I'm wondering if maybe they're checking for any bone loss secondary to your arthritis?

Maybe the VA's protocol requires a baseline at an absurdly young age, or, like I said, maybe they're checking for bone loss or demineralization because of the arthritis - I would imagine the toll taken by inflammation could lead to some localized issues.
