dr.stone Dr. Stone Episode 8 Discussion!!!
ben0119 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
So, when I saw those promotional images, with Yuzuriha nowhere to be found, I feared the worst for her. And I thought Chrome was Taiju after adding that headgear. They look remarkably similar! Plus we all know how much an anime character's appearance can drastically change just by changing their hairstyle! And I assumed the two blondes were just more people they woke up. But, nope, there's an existing village that's been around for generations, and that wasn't Taiju! I am so glad Yuzuriha didn't die! That would have been heartbreaking! So it simply turned out that the group split up. But I wonder when we will see Taiju and Yuzuriha again, and when they will rejoin Senku. I hope it isn't too long! -

Another dirty job done.

Good voice acting isn't just about doing voices. Not everyone even can. Not everybody can be Frank Welker. It's about being a good actor. And Bryce is. If Bryce pulls it off well and fits the character, I don't see any issue here. If he was miscast, that's another thing. But that wouldn't be his fault, either.

Ep 1 - FINALLY, THE WITHDRAWALS COME TO AN END! SAO IS BACK! New OP sung by Asuna! ❤️ Judging by the visuals, this arc will be very interesting and epic indeed! And that "Invading" subtitle. Hmm. So, not only did Eugeo die, but Alice's memories were lost because that crystal was destroyed. I didn't realize that. AND Kirito has fallen into a coma. So that mission was arguably more of a failure than it was a success! Or a pyrrhic victory at best! The ONLY thing they succeeded at was getting rid of Administrator! Why the hell would you not have Kirito protected from an electric surge too, Kikuoka you dumbass. You could have been hit by a storm or something and lost power. How old is Selka now? SAO looks beautiful as always. Here's the douche bag village gate guard. Yeah those aren't strangers buddy. I thought that Alice would make a low key entrance and meet up with Selka instead of announcing herself like this. "Begone criminal." Fuck you, Gasfut. So they're allowed to live in the countryside outside the village. How generous of them... I am surprised we didn't see Alice and Selka meet up for the first time. I would have loved to see that reunion. Administrator and Chudelkin dead, and the Senate out of commission are GOOD THINGS. Bercouli is smart enough to enact the same common sense plan Kirito had come up with, without even hearing it, thankfully. So there were actually twice as many Knights before earlier battles with the Dark Territory? Great. How did Fanatio get out the library? Kirito saved you from Administrator from Thanos-ing your asses, you jackasses. So Kirito is still barely there to some extent. Always wants the swords nearby, and reacted to Dark Territory attack. Why are these lumberjacks such assholes, and why do they all suck at their jobs? Alice made the tree fall towards them LOL. Yeah you better pay up, asshole. You're really going to fuck with someone in a near comatose state?! How much lower can you get?! Yeah it wasn't just because of the sword that Alice was able to cut the tree down, you dumbasses. Haha, was that bang caused just by Alice glaring at them? Yeah you better give it back, you jackasses. Collapsing the caves... that's so obvious now that you mention it. That should have been done a long time ago! Of course Administrator wouldn't have cared if villages on the outskirts of the Empire got destroyed, and would've wanted to test her sword golems. Bleh. Eldrie you are still as stupid as ever. You think Kirito isn't fighting by choice?! Alice has to by lying here, right? Why wouldn't she able to fight like she used to? Her display with the lumberjacks would seem to show Alice is full of it here as well lol. Oh hell don't tell me they are attacking Rulid village! How did they get through the collapsed caves so fast?! -

Here are some promotional magazine scans. Don't know if there is a translation available for these, but I assume nothing that's written here can allow us to glean too much about the new season. Check out this TEN BILLION PERCENT STRAIGHT magazine spread of COMA KIRITO and GHOST EUGEO! And here's the others. Looks like mostly a retrospective. Lol at the Asuna stripping scene being included. Streaming is on Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Funimation, like before. Not sure how the Funimation thing works. I guess Aniplex worked out a deal with Funimation or something. At least it's being made available on a wide range of platforms! And it looks like lyrics haven't been translated for the OP yet. I think those channels usually have them set up as closed captions. A shame about Melodic Star's original channel getting shut down. And they said it wasn't even by any music labels, but some random asshole. The jerk! His channel is a great source of anime songs. I hope he can get his old channel back up. -

fire force Fire Force Episode 11 Discussion

Shinra converted Hibana to his harem with ONE PUNCH! Even Saitama would be impressed. -
Oh, by OP, I meant the opening post, earlier, which AnimationFan did a great job on, if that wasn't clear. I usually wouldn't watch an OP before the show premieres, just to go in more fresh and have that new show, new OP rush feeling right as the episode is airing, but I saw that it was by LiSA, so I decided to check it out. It's good! And the art and animation look really nice if that's how it is in the actual show! And yeah, I could definitely see these adventures happening just down the road from the Yasha Gang.

Jojo Golden Wind premieres October 26th! (Bye bye Boruto?!)
ben0119 replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Yeah, they were both drunk off their asses, so it was kind of a wash there. No way to be sure what really happened in that case, as being drunk could mess with memory and whatnot. As for the other two women, they just said that Todd got them drunk to screw them and felt taken advantage of (though Todd would have been drinking too,) but didn't accuse him of rape. But yeah, there hasn't been enough yet for Todd to get canceled, per se, but I do think his decline may not have been coincidental. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt and hope Todd isn't a monster, but there's no way to be completely sure right now. I do genuinely hope the incident with Jessie Pridemore was a misunderstanding or misremembered or something, and that nothing else comes out from other women. But I won't be surprised if it does. Yup, and a tweet it took me a few minutes to find posted by Todd himself proved this, that he recorded Natsu's lines for the final season remotely and then sent the files to Funimation to be mixed in. Maybe elfie thought Mest was porting Todd in to record the lines! -

Now you've forced me to do research. This should be time-consuming... Cross-referencing BehindtheVoiceActors and ANN here, since ANN doesn't list in chronological order, unfortunately. Taking the roles in 2019 (it was January when the Vic stuff blew up, and then Todd had his stuff come out shortly after), and checking them against ANN. Going by ANN's standards, with bolded characters being more prominent, I believe, it shows his Free character in bold. So he has that. In the Kengan Ashura series, he plays a few characters, but only one in bold. You said yourself his Fire Emblem part was a bit role. Do you even read your own posts? He returned to play his minor Kill la Kill character in a KLK videogame, whoopty-doo. I've never heard of the Marvel character he plays and couldn't tell if you that character has more lines in that game than any other. Not going to look into that further. His character in Ingress is bolded, but it looks like all the characters for that one are, so maybe I am wrong about what the bolding means. In any case, that character's name isn't in the synopsis, so not sure how much screen time he has. His Gundam Build Divers character is bolded. In Devil May Cry 5 he played two monsters. Don't really see him as the monster guy, but okay. Doubt that he got much for that. And he played some random yokais in yo-kai watch, but that isn't listed on ANN for whatever reason, so I have no idea of their possible prominence. But they're probably just random yokais of the week or something. Todd has two small roles and "additional voices" in Ladybug, so you vastly over-estimated what he's getting out of that. So, not a complete absence from the scene, but not nearly at what he was before. And there's another factor. The voice actors may not make that much voicing in the actual animes (if this is still true,) but they make a good amount of money doing convention appearances. You aren't going to get convention appearances if you don't have enough popular roles for people to come see you for. Are people falling over themselves to meet Todd for his Free character? I dunno'. His two most popular characters that most people would know about would probably be Natsu and Death the Kid. Not sure if he has anything else comparable to that. I think this decline in work is probably no coincidence, like how we learned Vic getting less work was no coincidence even before he got fired, because people didn't want to work with him, and they even had special "Vic locks" installed at Funimation to protect people from him! None of the people Todd @'d in this tweet responded to him, and he forgot to add the @ for Mashima, and Fairy Tail official accounts. Make of that what you will. But these were people that Todd worked with for years, probably his top show and character, and they no-sold his farewell tweet. Also, if you go to the Instagram link he posted there, we see him recording the lines and sending the files to Funimation. So there is no issue with him appearing in Funimation dubs, just because he doesn't live in Texas anymore. There are also other companies to work for besides Funimation... Umm, it wasn't just licensing and dubbing studios stateside that were hit hard, with some closing up, but actual companies and studios in Japan where the actual anime is made had the same thing happen. The recession was rough on lots of companies, but especially anything nonessential, including hobbies like anime, people would have no choice but to spend less on. I disagree that he was unaffected, if you look at his declining prominence and relevance. -

ben0119 replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
And what is his prominence of roles in those titles you just listed? I thought you said they were bit parts? So a few bit parts here and there, doesn't sound nearly as prolific as he once was. By laying low I mean not saying anything further about the accusations. He shut his ass up and just kept his Twitter to generic stuff talking about the [little] amount of things he was voicing in. I mean, playing in stuff like that Ladybug show is the equivalent of a once prominent actor finding themselves on a Hallmark original movie. Yes, they're technically "getting work," but eehhh... -

Well, the JoJo Diamond is Unbreakable story had definite direction, as it was leading up to taking out the guitar guy. But after he was beaten, it wasn't certain where the story was going to go. But, as it progressed, and after the fact, you could see the method to the madness, with it all leading to Kira. -

ben0119 replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I'd say something did come from it given Todd is barely in anything anymore, he deleted his original response to the accuser, and then laid low as possible and kept his mouth shut. There's nothing saying it can't blow up further at some point in the future, either. Though the likelihood of accusers getting mass-harassed by misogynist assholes may deter that. It's hard to say for sure. Either way, Todd is fading fast. I nominate Derick Snow as replacement Todd. He sounds very similar to Todd and I wouldn't have been surprised if Todd would have played Shinra if Todd didn't have that scandal crop up. -
I wouldn't call Kekkaishi generic. Especially in how it progresses during the manga-only content. There's a lot of stuff in it that I've not seen done elsewhere. Also in how the characters are utilized. Another thing I liked about it is fights weren't about power levels and brute strength and punching, but strategy, tactics, and technique. Also the combat style was unique. I really have no interest in the Fate series whatsoever. For one thing, it's derived from some weird porn visual novel. I will judge for myself, for sure. Not really sure I can take your post too seriously.

Can you just link to the tweets? Well, regardless of however many people watch it, I'm not going to be watching the reruns. Super just does not have the re-watchability for me like the original Dragon Ball/DBZ/Kai do, which I have watched over and over dozens of times, more than I could keep track of. Too much inconsistency with the original series. Even though Toriyama made things up as he went along, and forgot stuff from time to time, there was a logic to the world, and the characters' personalities and development, etc. That goes out the window in Super. GT, while not having the highs of Super, doesn't have its lows either. Doesn't have all the fluff, either. It was a pretty solid what-if sequel. I thought using the Tuffles, and having the Dragon Balls themselves as the final villains, was really creative. Don't think I can treat either as canon, though. Maybe I would re-watch a few episodes or some arcs here or there, but I just can't see myself sitting through all of that again.

Yep can't really dispute any of that lmao. Then Hunter x Hunter shouldn't have been on the block.

In all seriousness, Naruto has a pretty interesting back story for the world. There's been like three Great Ninja Wars or something in the past, and I think only third one, and current (fourth) one have been covered in any detail? If anything, a prequel would make a hell of a lot more sense than a sequel. But who knows, if it was actually more fleshed out, it mind end up sucking. That's the whole thing of sometimes it's better for things to stay mysterious, and also the difficulty of making prequels work well.

Well Boruto has a thing where he is tsundere for his dad, and the idea seems to be start off Boruto as kind of a little shit and then improve him as a person as the show goes along. It is better in a lot of ways. The writing is better, too. And the girls aren't so incompetent in this show. But at the end of the day, it still has the Naruto baggage, which holds it back to some extent. I would say the whole thing about it being a spoiler for Shippuden, which it is, but the same thing happened with Dragon Ball and DBZ back in the day, and we didn't seem to mind. Dragon Ball is just so much better than Naruto in general, though. But with Boruto, I don't really care about the spoilers because how far the Shippuden story has declined in quality. Either way, I could take or leave the show on the block. Well, no one is putting a kunai to your head.

Great OP! Ah, I love that new anime smell. Yeah, I am getting InuYasha vibes from this. I would say darker, but InuYasha was pretty dark too. But maybe it's just the visuals that make it seem darker. I have no idea if this show has moments of levity like InuYasha, either. I get Kekkaishi vibes too. Know almost nothing aside from the name, some visuals, and this promo, but I'm looking forward to it!
