  1. Yeah they ran a toyetic anime but they must have had no interest in DBS over on the CN side, otherwise Toei would have given it to CN in a heart beat. It's going to be interesting to see what Toei decides to do with future DB series there's really no telling what could happen with the way the market is constantly changing.
  2. Simply having the Junji Ito show sooner doesn't mean it's gonna be good. The Junji Ito Collection was pretty awful. But yeah Uzumaki could get shelved before completion and in that case Netflix wins by default.
  3. That would be horrendous. They could certainly do a Punk Hazard marathon of One Piece. Run a whole season of FLCL. Run 6 episodes of GITS, Bebop or Attack on Titan. They still have most of Black Clover on the app so maybe they can still air that. And if MHA season 6 is actually coming then I figured plan A was to rerun the whole villain arc that night even if that’s redundant.
  4. I think it didn’t take even a year for Adult Swim to prove to Toei that 11pm and even midnight on a Saturday was a better time slot than 8pm.
  5. I’m rather surprised Fena wasn’t union but I suppose NYAV Post does non-union too. Chock this up to another anti-union move from Crunchyroll.
  6. I don’t think Crunchyroll can tighten the door on Toei shows as long as Toei holds the streaming rights (and broadcast rights) which they do in most cases. One Piece, Kai, Super and potentially any future Dragon Ball series won’t get locked down unless Toei lets Crunchyroll have those rights exclusively and I foresee Toei continuing to be too hands on to do that. However, it’s only sensible at this point to operate under the expectation that nothing is certain. If MHA season 6 comes then it’s a good prospect but not a guarantee other prior licenses will return (Dr. Stone, Fire Force) and Crunchyroll can make them as expensive as they want to if not outright refuse them unless a Japanese company forces them to cooperate.
  7. American Dad and Rick & Morty got 0.185 18-49 and above 350k each on November 5th before Toonami. That’s probably the best Saturday those shows have had since September.
  8. Grexeno on the Toonami Escape Podcast had a reasonable theory. Toei only wanted them to double up One Piece until Film Red hit theaters. It’s otherwise rather odd that double OP ended right when Film Red hit theaters. Though honestly my best guess is Toonami initially bought to the end of Punk Hazard and aren’t certain what 2023’s budget will permit so they don’t want to blow through the rest when things remain in flux. Either that or they were only doing double One Piece for as long as they had 4 hours to fill and they were finally told to scale back so they feel less obligated to fill 2:30 with a premiere. I feel like they doubled it up to give it the best shot they could to see if it could be a mainstay again but now that they’ve seen it’s modest performance doesn’t look capable of growing much, they have to consider if buying 100ish episodes of Dressrosa is worth the commitment. I certainly hope Toei didn’t just jack up the price because of Film Red actually doing respectable in theaters here but I suppose I would not rule that out.
  9. Cancer claims another great. It never gets any easier to stomach how easily a life can end. It’s going to take time to process this.
  10. No premieres below 0.09 or 186k? Primal probably didn’t drop much from Shippuden either so that makes for a very respectable 3 hours.
  11. Yeah that’s true the original statement was from Pridemore and Todd poorly defended himself while also throwing Vic under the bus because he was aware of Vic’s interactions with Pridemore. I don’t recall seeing Todd apologizing but I definitely saw him claiming it was between consenting adults. If he did apologize then that probably did help avoid career assassination. They did use Blake Shepard a ton for a while. They seem to have dialed that back but as for why Shepard didn’t get as much flack? Probably because not as many people paid attention to Sentai dubs. Before him it was all Chris Patton and Greg Ayres at ADV.
  12. There’s already been 3 other SAO movies that Toonami hasn’t aired (not that the 3rd one is even in the US yet) so that was true for a while.
  13. Todd was slinging extra mud at Vic and outted himself as a sexual predator in the process. Though it’s a “he said, she said” situation and he claims the sex he had with a fan at a convention was consensual, the woman feels quite the opposite and has some witnesses who Todd also tried to drag into the mud. Unlike Vic he didn’t try to sue for defamation but interestingly he did supposedly seek legal council from Vic’s lawyer. An odd thing to do after trying to make Vic look even worse. So some studios seem to be avoiding Todd but he’s still in SAG-AFTRA and he gets roles in many LA dubs. Vic probably would still be Ikkaku if he hadn’t tried to sue FUNimation but now no major studio will hire him.
  14. Oh he was in it. He played the creep that bought Fena’s first service at the brothel. He was recast and never credited but the difference between his admittedly great performance and Robbie Daymond’s is quite obvious to me. Current digital versions have Daymond but the original broadcast didn’t until episode 3. Daymond was credited for all his appearances but it was definitely not Daymond in episode 1. You can also hear Haberkorn in the episode 3 promo and Daymond’s performance is quite different. Good on them for recasting and even re-recording but Haberkorn surely still got paid and casting him at all was quite an oversight.
  15. I like the juxtaposition of the two stories going side by side. I think I heard the manga doesn't switch between the two. We just had to start things off with sexual assault on a minor and... pooping. Reg made a good point though, that pod is probably the safest place to take a dump. Also the girl from the village that was considered worthless because she couldn't reproduce... I don't even want to know the answer for how the village figured that out. Get ready to see many creatures shaped like genitalia and quite a few more gross moments! This season doesn't pull punches.
  16. Distressingly the whole point was to use that "love" for Prushka and her love for him to further his research. He's a real piece of work. There's probably some in the organization that value his research no matter how twisted it becomes and it seems like most of the organization doesn't value human life much at all. Yeah... white whistles are people. Makes you wonder WHO used to be Lyza's whistle? Was it Riko's father? All we know is that he died. I've seen that movie 3 or 4 times. It never gets any easier but I rewatch it with other people who haven't seen it yet.
  17. Even if it's a union dub this time (and I hope it is) there's no guarantee Laura Baily will return. She didn't return for Tiger & Bunny season 2 and that one is a union dub but it's possible that role just wasn't important enough to her. Alain Mesa sounds like he's imitating Jamieson Price who was imitating Marc Worden. It sounds fine, good even. He can probably yell out the Spanish attack names better than Price and sound more like a teenage boy. It's a real monkey's paw for Vic to be replaced by Todd. Its really quite obnoxious. It will forever delight me that NYAV Post recast Todd in Fena though they shouldn't have cast him in a role in the first place. I never much cared for Derek Stephen Prince as Ishida, I would not have minded at all for him to be recast with an actor who can sound younger or was an Asian actor. Alan Lee or Stephen Fu would be great as Ishida. Ichigo and Orihime always had Asian VAs that could pass for teenagers, though I don't think either are Japanese. I do hope they get David Lodge back for Kenpachi but if they haven't reached out yet then chances are they're not getting him back. I haven't been much of a Bleach fan since I fell off during the Bount Arc and I only rekindled that interest a bit when I started watching it again on Toonami in 2012 but I gotta say hearing Number One blare as the quad takes down a bunch of hollows was really hype.
  18. Zaslav retaliates by forcing Toonami to stop playing One Piece. I joke but I wouldn't put it past the guy. A One Piece movie gets a wide release, a promotion with a national food chain (Carl's Jr/Hardees), promotion in Times Square and it wins the Friday box office of it's debut weekend? But One Piece ISN'T popular in the US right? SUCK ON DEEZ NUTS HATERS!!!
  19. Yeah I really hope they go back to double by Dressrosa IF they even go beyond Punk Hazard. At the very least they might double One Piece up again once Shippuden ends if it doesn't happen any sooner.
  20. Believe it or not, I think a lot of people will just roll with it if they're not aware of the movie. The thing they might question is why Riko has a different looking white whistle and why she refers to it by the name Prushka. They might just assume the elevator that brought them down to the 6th layer was no big deal and it wasn't difficult to get to. Some viewers might look into why things jumped ahead a bit but most probably won't stop watching it out of confusion.
  21. I'd laugh pretty hard if come December it's not MHA season 6 that joins but instead Bleach. But yeah it looks like either the pre-existing deal or some influence from Toho (not to be confused with Toei) brought MHA back for another season, Toonami just doesn't get to air it QUITE yet. Certainly a downgrade from the turnaround for seasons 4 and 5 but it wont end up being a full season behind. Bleach might have to wait till YashaHime ends or some arbitrary number of weeks has passed but it still leaves me perplexed as to why Hulu would stream the dub on Fridays rather than Monday with the simulcast but maybe they just wanted to have them on different days. If MHA season 6 is starting in December than November is a bit of bummer besides Made in Abyss season 2 airing but good things do seem to be on the horizon for December. Time to start guessing what series will get holiday marathons, particularly on the last two Saturdays of December. I'm inclined to think they'll do a One Piece Punk Hazard marathon one of those weeks just because they can but they're short on options for the other days. MiA season 2 will have 6 episodes aired by December 24th so that could be an option as well. And as for Thanksgiving they could potentially rerun the whole Villain arc of MHA season 5 before starting season 6 in December. But here's a thought. The block is down to six slots now and they happen to have 6 episode long seasons of a series that they will be pushing next year... so maybe they'll do FLCL marathons on 1 to 3 of those Saturdays?
  22. I think they’ll have it till May of 2023 which might be just long enough.
