It very well could be an outright lie however the perpetrator was cyber bullied to the point where they had a name change. What the bullying was about wasn’t clear but it included releasing his images to other sites and making fake wikis of him on fake wiki type sites. They even have a YouTube channel prior to the name change and the only video was a crude animation of an “Asian homosexual being molested” which was likely part of the perp being bullied and wasn’t actually him but no one knows Not making excuses just sayin they can be NB and their life experiences could’ve led to them turning bitter and self hating. Idt it will prevent the hate crime charges but it will definitely confuse a jury and prevent them from finding them guilty. unless there’s a twist to hate crime laws saying if you’re from said group you can’t commit hate crimes against them? Empathy might not always directly lead to morality but you do need empathy to be more nuanced when it comes to human interaction, to know what’s fundamentally right and wrong takes not only morals but some degree of empathy to navigate any given situation.
