30 in the area is the current count, but the NWS is still checking. In Chicago - 5. Since 1950, before this storm, the city has only had 13 total. EDIT: It looks like they still have at least 24 more areas to assess, based on a map post of areas with debris.

He & Odunze are both signed as of a day or two ago.

ABC local just said the count is up to 25 confirmed tornadoes in the area.

...the NWS says there were 19 confirmed tornadoes over Sunday & Monday for the Chicagoland area. Coworkers had massive trees uprooted, house damage. They think there were simultaneous tornadoes at O'Hare & Midway airports. Oh, and there was a 3.4 magnitude earthquake in the area as well on Monday morning.

Back when I lived in Chicago, a critter got into an electrical substation. Lots of noise, flashes and a few city blocks without power for a couple of hours.
