  1. This is almost as traumatic as when Pluto was downgraded.
  2. @PokeNirvash I didn't mean be quite so harsh - Like I said, I really enjoyed the initial description of the alley, and with the scene lighting the cigarette, I was settled down for a little bit of something hard boiled and Mickey Spillane-ish, so it may have been more that my expectations for the characters didn't allow for what you were trying to say. If so, I apologize. But I still think that Ash was going to kill himself, if not with the scarab, then some other way, and within the not-too-distant future. As for the Scotch/Scottish thing, well, I may have started life with a Slavic surname full of awkward consonants and minimal vowels, but I married a man whose grandfather was from Glasgow. The distinction was made early in our relationship, and, had we had a pre-nup, I'm sure that observing it would have been one of the terms. It's just one of those knee-jerk things - I mean, the in-laws haven't made me wear the shock collar in years...
  3. Happy birthday!
  4. Yes, it did, but not in the way you think - I had a flash of this guy showing up at the ER post-incident, puking all over the place and lying about why, demanding instant relief and sympathy. In fact, if the story had been set 25 or 30 years ago, I'd have sworn that he'd been one of my patients.
  5. Do you clean with your bare hands? Do you actually have contact with the traveling public? I'm willing to bet that you're in more danger going to Walmart than you are going to work at the moment.
  6. Ghostie, at this moment, you're in more danger of dying from plain old seasonal flu, and that's not a joke, it's a fact. So take the standard precautions - get a flu shot, practice good handwashing, avoid crowded venues like malls or clubs whenever possible, and tell people who are sick to stay the fuck away and not touch your stuff.
  7. November 2004
  8. You got your freebie. Now you can either consult a real life credentialed professional or Google it yourself.
  9. You get one question; after that I'm on the clock.
  10. Actually, it's 1000mg/day. Long term use can cause kidney damage and increase the likelihood of heart attack, stroke, or GI bleeding (it can also cause GI bleeding if taken on an empty stomach). You'd be better off getting clinical advice that doesn't come from an anonymous message board.
  11. Make sure that your carbon monoxide detector is working.
  12. Given the choice between a full-on chair and an icy sitz bath in the middle of the night, I'll take the chair every time.
  13. Smile pretty, and remember to leave the seat down.
  14. The Smurfs. When I was in nursing school.
  15. What brought this on? I can barely find stuff now, and you want to go fucking with things?
  16. RIP to the man who inspired my daughters to sprint in stilettos
  17. Orgasm.
  18. And I am Spartacus.
  19. Hey, can I judge again? I promise to behave and not be snarky if somebody refers to 40 degrees as "frigid" again.
  20. The Old Testament was a good read (minus Leviticus and Deuteronomy, of course, although even they have their interesting points). Lots of murder, pillage, politics, betrayal, and treachery presided over by a god with more than a touch of narcissism. You can keep the New Testament - bunch of spin built around a guy who, if he actually existed, was just another Jewish dissident in a time that was rife with dissidents and messiahs.
  21. Oh, good - I re-read that and Claudius the God every winter. Kind of like a visit to and old friend; the really fun thing is that, in my head, Claudius' voice isn't Derek Jacobi, it's Terry Jones (or some years, Graham Chapman) in drag.
  22. I'm in, and 100 sounds good. 1) I, Claudius by Robert Graves (annual re-read - do I get to count that?)
  23. NextGen is probably the best place to start. DS9 and Voyager were spin-offs. (TOS is still a lot of fun, though, if only to see analog readouts on a ship that can go warp speed, and to see James T. Kirk bone half the galaxy without coming down with cosmic herpes.)
