Y’all (rightfully) lay into the show and the author, but my opinion has always been the sheer amount of concentrated ANIME per square inch of said anime is why it did so well. We’ve got everything, accidental harems, transforming henshin hero armor, women in every shape and size, tsunderes, yanderes, and lots and lots of action. It was dumb as hell but that’s probably why it did so well.

Shield Hero also got a ton of free publicity from people declaring it the new worst thing, right on the heels of the ill fated announcement of High Guardian Spice (which at this point feels less like a show and more a boogeyman they trot out to make other shows look good). With that not possible, advertising in the middle of one of the biggest cities on Earth and letting people wonder brings viewers in a way a puff piece simply cannot.

I really hate to be that guy, but it worked, didn’t it?

GITS is getting a new series...on Netflix.

We all were. How much money they threw at Tatsunoko and Big West to keep the license hostage will be interesting to hear.

The problem with that is them telling people a lot of the shows exist tells people that the shows are on...demand. And they watch them there and that does jack all for Toonami. What’s the point of advertising MHA if people just watch it on Hulu?

The UFC clobbered Toonami faster than Ngannou knocked out Dos Santos.

And as the song says, if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.
