Well, I guess it wasn't a good idea to pass up the thread tonight. -
The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board

He's more merely the enabler, and the one who was given a good deal on airing it. I'd put most of the blame on whoever from the Japanese side wanted to make this show big... and maybe those who made the franchise profitable over there. -
Hey, they posted a GIF from Dimension W on the blog yesterday. I can't wait for that show to make a comeback.
-
I know this response is probably because you're "extra spicy", but I don't see a problem with not knowing where a show airs on linear TV. I would at least kindly tell them about it. As for the primary topic... in my opinion, not really. They at least air the Dragon Ball shows, but everything else save for Naruto have never risen beyond cult appeal. Whether or not this is a bad thing is up 2 you.

Toonami isn't awful, but I do get where that opinion is coming from. I'm pretty much at the point where I don't even need to watch it anymore, but it has some interesting shows that are worth staying up for... responsibly. I at least tape Outlaw Star so my sleep patterns won't be as fucked up.

Okay, now we're starting to overthink this. -

DeMarco said that the ratings are less of an issue than ever. Considering how low things got in 2017 without the block getting shorter, I feel like I can take him at his word... even though these current numbers inspire even less confidence. I mean, it's not as if this wouldn't be possible, but Funi almost never does same-day simuldubs. And there probably won't be a significant ratings increase if they do it this way, so I'm expecting the same better-scheduled treatment Season 2 got. Regarding the former point, My Hero Academia S2's dub aired on the same day as the subbed version... for about half of its run. Then they started airing it on a faster timetable than other Funi simuldubs (as in, about a week), but not alongside the sub. I guess it was too much for them to handle. And nobody seemed to mind that much anyway. -

While I do appreciate this thought, it doesn't really correlate with Toonami doing fine (allegedly?) in the ratings. Maybe the business model has changed due to them not being able to get a lot of these shows. Of course, that doesn't mean we can stop telling them to try. That's not going to be possible unless it takes a break for FLCL 2, and they're much more likely to add a slot for it, although I do low-key think it might replace Gundam: IBO. Attack on Titan is probably going to (again) replace JoJo's, at least for my money. -

This is actually a valid point, and it speaks a lot to my current dissatisfaction with the block. Everything has become so homogenized... from the top of the block, you've got two whole hours of long-running (Black Clover is supposedly 51 episodes, so I count that) shonen, of which only JoJo's interests me. Then it's Gundam followed by another hour of shonen, albeit with Hunter x Hunter in the Chimera Ant arc, so it's not a waste. Meanwhile, I can stream stuff like Re:Zero and Made in Abyss at a moment's notice. Where are they eye-catching seinen shows like that, DeMarco? Is Netflix just taking them all in en masse? Or maybe the Japanese companies don't even bother to include TV rights in the deals anymore. Stop getting left out in the cold. True that... although I prefer to record it. -

Actually, it's Disney XD. As in, no hyphen. I just feel like DeMarco's comment of "ratings matter less than ever" was tempting fate for them to get even lower. This also makes Al's comment about the government shutdown murdering the ratings funny in hindsight, because this was a week with little football and/or current events. Alas, this week is kind of bringing back my thought that there shouldn't be any ratings discussion, whether they're actually released or not. -

Oh my goodness. How about we just plug Shippuden into Black Clover's spot and replace it with a(nother) rerun of Samurai Jack S5? -

That's probably wrong. What I'm seeing is an 11-4 run with an old schedule (no Black Clover yet) and no episode titles. Things can be sluggish to update after a new month passes, so you should check back there in a little while to see if it's changed. -
Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
At least Japan has been doing a couple of stories about the apocalypse lately, including this arguably-questionable advertisement. Being not too far from North Korea must require this as a coping mechanism. I'd say the most recent Toonami was good. JoJo's in particular was fun, though I'd put that on the heavy focus of humor more than anything. Polnareff pissing into the air tube Cameo used was pretty hilarious, although I'm not sure if he actually deserved it. Sure, he (as in, Polnareff) had his emotions played due to thinking his sister was brought back from the dead, but at least she turned out to be fake. It wasn't much worse than finding out Avdol wasn't dead the entire time. I'd much rather have seen that done to Dan of Steel. Also, speaking of Avdol himself... if that entire sequence of reveals turned out to be a little implausible for your tastes, that's because it originally wasn't intended for him to survive. Hol Horse was actually going to join the Stardust Crusaders at some point, but Mr. Araki ended up going back on that because Avdol was more popular. I do think that was a good call, mostly since Hol Horse ended up being... well, kind of a coward. Although... well, because of spoilers, I won't say anything else. And Outlaw Star is still good, but I liked last week's episode (which, for the record, deserved higher than a TV-PGL) more than the most recent one. -

Live Q&A Pre-Flight Episode in January
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Or rather, there's a short version, which Toonami aired. It effectively removed the entire plot, including a brief prologue where the protagonist said something. And that's why people were disappointed, because they thought a subbed anime would finally air on the block. -
Live Q&A Pre-Flight Episode in January
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I actually watched it, but without sound, so I couldn't hear anything they said. But judging by the reactions of the live chat, it was apparently a nothingburger after all. In particular, there was one guy in the chat who just spammed the same question of if they would air Shelter: The Animation again, but as the full version this time. I have no idea why you'd make such a big deal about that when it's available to stream on Crunchyroll for free 365 days a year, but... yeah. -

From what I've heard, this show might be even better dubbed. However, I thought it would be kind of cool if Funi casted VAs who had the same roles as the ones from the original Japanese version for each episode. The second had Piccolo and Raditz' seiyuus, so Christopher Sabat should('ve been / be) in that one.
