Alex Hirsch is an executive producer (and voices one character: Knolls, the guy who actually killed JFK), but he otherwise has no creative input in the show. I am astounded the show makes no effort to hide how it takes place firmly in 2020. You even see "2020" on-screen at one point. They throw shade at Facebook at least several times. All they need is a pandemic in-universe and they're set!

Is it possible? Apparenlty, Oda appears to think so.
