Bill Nye did not teach me this but I wanted to share before I forgot it.
Metal does not have a smell, because smell is transmitted by vapor and metals do not give off enough vapor to be detectable by our sense of smell.
The metallic smell you notice after, say, handling coins, playing guitar, touching something rusty, etc is causedby the metal interacting with and changing the oils in our skin.
