2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
Icarus27k replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
Why would anyone share this information under the impression it makes them look good? -
So, is the SCOTUS Looking to Destroy the Country….

Also, every so often, John Roberts tries to make the case that Congress should give judges a pay raise. It's supposedly a big deal issue for him. I would laugh in his face every time he tries to lobby for that. -

The U.S. Supreme Court is a problem. They are clearly are legitimizing unconstitutional ideas. The good news is this isn't the first time in U.S. history the court has done that and they can be overturned later. I would seriously consider term limits for Justices and limiting judges' jurisdiction (for example, mandating judges canNOT preside over cases where politicians who helped appoint them are defendants). It's not the Supreme Court from 25 years ago. It's some weird corrupt court now. -

2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences

I await the exact number of states RFK Jr makes it to, either listed on the ballot or as a write-in. I don't pay attention to polls that list him as a candidate because I'm still not sure he's going to be competing. -
What this is about (the stuff in the original post, not all the other stuff): Marjorie Taylor Greene is going to go thru with her quixotic attempt to oust Mike Johnson from the Speakership. It's assumed Johnson will survive, but most Republicans are pissed they have to go through another vote for Speaker. Greene and all the Republicans who go along with her could go over a cliff on a bus, and all the other Republicans would be happy about it. But yes, we probably will have another roll call vote.

Just making a decision to approve additional aid to Ukraine has probably mucked up Russia's plans to a degree because they were probably making some military decisions on the assumption this aid would be delayed or not happen.

This is a totally healthy party that's totally going to win elections for years to come

Ask a non-Jewish person of a certain age what Passover is
Icarus27k replied to Icarus27k's topic in General Discussion
Oh, I see. For you, Passover was something a lot more serious. Scary even. -
Wait. I have to go check acronym meanings. Edit: oh yeah. Happy birthday, @uhmmmm

Yeah, this was kind of my point. There's a second Rugrats special about Hannukkah, and these collectively were my first popular culture exposure to Jewish religious ceremonies. -
McCarthy Speaker & GOP House Majority Drama

One reason she acts like this is because of the attention she gets. Reporters should think twice about whether they put her on camera. The vote today proves that her beliefs are a small minority of the whole House. There are plenty of small minorities with crazy beliefs. They just get ignored. -

It's uncanny. Try it. Ask them, "Are you thinking of Rugrats right now?" -
I feel better. I was getting concerned for Ukraine if they didn't receive more artillery and air defense.

I've found the following to be true as well. Despite a dubious reputation early on, Reddit has mellowed out over the years and is now full of normal people making mostly neutral or positive content. It's quite a story arc.

Pop culture franchise VERSUS other pop culture franchise
Icarus27k replied to Icarus27k's topic in General Discussion
This reminds me of the Archie Horror imprint. You think, "horror stories with Archie characters is going to be campy fun" but then they turn out to be seriously scary. To the point where it's off-putting. -
The guy's pamphlet can be found on social media. I skimmed it. It appears to be a "secret Illuminati like group is controlling the world" thing.
