  1. What on earth kind of mess is this? Going back to MHA S5 just screams confirmation CR shows are out no matter what. MiA S2 is neat, no movie is not. And thanks for putting it in front of Yashahime. I don’t love One Piece, but it tastes a lot better two episodes a week. Why are we dropping that? Personally I’m sick of Primal but given their rerun options, it’s the best card they have
  2. With how it tanks every night, it really should just get dumped after Naruto so the rest of the shows at least have a chance. It’s the main cause for the rest of the block missing the top 50 most weeks. Starting out low certainly doesn’t help, but losing a huge chunk of that already low audience is the real killer. Bleach or MHA would be saviors if they got them, but we know odds on MHA are very low, and Bleach is still at 50/50. It certainly looks like the block could be the next day premier after the Hulu release, but you would think something major like that would have been announced by now. Total crisis scenario is if they have nothing and end up having an hour of Yashahime right up top. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
  3. I guess we can take some comfort that there is barely anything else on AS that can fall victim to this. At worst maybe Uzumaki is cancelled (as if we were ever going to get it anyway), and if luck is on our side, maybe those new FLCL seasons get the axe before they tarnish the franchise name further.
  4. I really enjoyed HCC, and I’m not afraid to call it the best original thus far, but there is no argument that it was a flop with the Toonami audience, especially comparing it to Primal rerun numbers just one month ago. No idea what they are planning for the 5th, but they need something damn good for midnight. And they really need to consider moving Yashahime later in the night
  5. I think what they are saying here is the stuff they have already written off amounts of 2.5 billion. Which to the people asking why writing stuff off is an option they are taking, here is your answer. The concerning part is the 4.3 billion in restructuring costs. So they wrote off all that stuff, and they are still in the hole. So we gotta wonder where that other 2.2 billion is gonna come from. The write off options are starting to dwindle.
  6. Watch this not acknowledge Tomoe in any way This is pretty tricky for them to pull off. Lupin and his gang have always stayed the same age while the world around them continues on. So timeline wise, this has to be in 40s or so, maybe even a little early, to work with Lupin’s age in the first part. Or maybe they just do a “hey what if Lupin was 12 lmao” and don’t try to wedge it into the timeline. Lupin has encountered plenty of sci-fi tech in his time, a de-aging device wouldn’t be out of place.
  7. Not sure if this has already been discussed, but early promo material for HCC used the red splatter behind the logo. When it actually started getting ads on TV, it used the blue splatter. This piece of advertising used both. Was there any significance to this that I overlooked? Or was it just a stylistic choice? The red version obviously looks like blood and fits a horror theme. I didn’t notice anything that relates to the blue.
  8. This is why the stalling stuff is so annoying. They are probably already committed to a schedule for the 5th at this point, but they just won’t tell us what it is for reasons. If the criteria is “has action” the Sentai catalog has a boatload of content they could be choosing from. It always irks me when I see people claim we don’t get Sentai shows because they don’t have anything that fits the block. Ushio and Tora is just one of many examples they could grab if they would step one foot out of their comfort zone
  9. Well, I gotta say in its final stretch, this ended up being one wild ride. Among the originals, I’d rank this as the best so far, not that that is a high bar or anything. Biggest black mark for it is pacing, and a lot of people called that the moment we found out it was 4 episodes. This episodes mass info dump in particular, where the characters standard speech pattern was thrown out because he had to vomit out so much lore and info so quickly, was difficult to follow. Once we got over that hurdle though, it was a solid 9/10 up until the credits rolled. Do gotta say though, having another Demarco/Maki original that ends with the main girl being a god and the credits rolling over them with a different hair color makes them seem a little creatively bankrupt. In the end, I’m just glad my boy Khan survived. And I guess also his homie who hit the road last episode when he found out he was in a horror anime.
  10. At this point in the year, if they are still stalling for time there’s a solid chance the above prediction of nothing at all is what we are getting. Accounting for standard marathons, we only have 6 regular Toonami nights left this year. If there is nothing announced for the 5th then we are most likely done for the year
  11. That’s money out the door though. If they have Sentai on the phone and their checkbook in their hand, they don’t need to stall for time, they need to request something new to Toonami out of the Sentai catalog. With 4 open slots, the lowest priority ones are the rerun slots. It doesn’t really matter what show they pick for that hour, it’s gonna struggle to hold 100k viewers. Hasn’t the block just ignored DST the past few years? My first guess would be they throw an hours worth of those R&M shorts there. Of course, claiming on Facebook it’s part of Toonami, only to have it all air after the later
  12. This is another thing worth discussing. In total, the November 5th schedule has a whopping 4 slots to answer for. HCC which is the major one, Lupin, and both MiA slots. Double Naruto could stick around which would handle one, but those rerun slots are tricky. With the 3 CR originals written off, the options for that slot are limited. The last run of Bebop made a pretty good case that fans are finally getting tired of it, and we have been so sparse on content this year anyway there really aren’t many acquired shows to fall back on. I would not be surprised at all if the a November 5th schedule drops and it’s one slot lighter, with the other rerun going to, unfortunately, the other 7 episodes of TPN S2. Then next year, that slot could be cut as well. It’s not ideal, but I do have a feeling that the block is currently overextended for its budget and staff. Slightly related, but as we are now at the end of the day on Friday and November 5th schedules will be going live soon and we have no announcements, my already low expectations for good news have decreased slightly more.
  13. Been trying to figure this out since the start of the month when the October schedules came out, and there isn’t a single option that feels like a safe bet. Your first 3 options make the most sense, and if it was 2019, those wouldn’t be predictions, those would be inevitability’s. We would have a power hour of Bleach/MHA in the lead, and MiA tucked a little later. I’d say something like Kaiji had as much chance as anything else in the Sentai catalog. We did get MiA, so there is some precedent they don’t mind going back a few years, but only time will tell if they are willing to give another Sentai show a chance. As for the super old stuff, Demarco may want to air it, but I think he has a steep uphill battle convincing his superiors that stuff that old isn’t a money pit.
  14. That drop was justified. Chiller just flat out did not care. They heard anime might be good for viewership and judged a few books by their cover and slammed an allegedly horror anime block together. Which started out with a comedy/harem that I assume they picked up because “zombie” was a keyword they were looking for in a show title. They didn’t even bother to do the subtitles which were crucial to know what one character was saying. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in the same boat of being encouraged to watch the show because of Chiller and ending up really enjoying it, but there’s no arguing that there was a theme they were going for and they missed the mark right out of the gate. And that’s a shame, because having a few other anime blocks on other days of the week on other channels would have been some nice variety. Having the Chiller block die so fast and in such a spectacular disaster probably discouraged other networks from attempting their own.
  15. It would be better than the more likely alternative of nothing. This block is well beyond the point of getting dub premier content. As far as I’m concerned a 24 hour gap of the hottest anime of the year is damn good, especially with how subpar the blocks offerings have been this year.
  16. At that stage it becomes even more frustrating though. They claim marathons are due to poor ratings, yet would be willing to keep what would be their main bread and butter show airing. What would be an easy skip night would then become something people have to set aside 30 minutes for. A deal like this pokes massive holes in the marathon argument. I do agree about late December though, Viz probably wouldn’t be recording or releasing an episode so they would have a bit of flexibility there.
  17. A 24 hour gap between the release and the Toonami run is probably the absolute best case scenario for us at this stage. And now that Hulu has put out their statement, Toonami should be able to put one out by the end of the week, assuming they have it of course. Unfortunately though, that nice 24 hour gap wouldn’t last, cause you just know they are going to waste our time with a thanksgiving marathon and throw the whole system off only a few weeks deep into it.
  18. Airing Primal reruns in the lead slot was one of the biggest mistakes they ever did. And it was a mistake because those reruns did GOOD. We got through the entire summer with a halfway decent lead in, then we fire up an original and everything tanks. There’s no argument on what the problem is. I don’t think we are quite Chiller tier yet. I’m pretty sure they had some examples at 4 digits.
  19. This is a good outcome. People may not like when a news source spreads a sensationalist headline, but getting everyone in a huge panic is often the only way to get some official communication. Now we wait and see if they can actually deliver on “30 and thriving” because their slate of content right now is still pretty subpar. Their 30th anniversary schedule was the first time in a long time the network was actually watchable. It’s still doing OK for Halloween since Courage is still on, but I do fear they will slide back into their old ways soon.
  20. I saw it quite a lot of discussion when the event was live and a few weeks after. There’s really only so much to talk about on the topic so it falling off and becoming the new normal isn’t too surprising. If they crew ever wants to get people talking about it again they can always introduce a new room or something. But with the tight budget, I don’t think we will ever venture outside of the elevator/hallway/main deck.
  21. I agree with you, I find the One Piece and Naruto bumps pretty grating. The song clip they use for OP is nails on a chalkboard at this point. But I think the reason we feel that way is the damn things haven’t changed since January. I don’t remember feeling that way about them in January. I agree bumps should stay relevant to the current events in the show, but I caution with that mindset, the Naruto bumps are actually exactly at the point in the story we are because of all the damn filler. With how sparse pickups seem to be going forward, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for the good old days of refreshing the bumps with every new pickup. My 4 month suggestion above was with a mindset of the block shifting content much more often as we did pre 2020. Those days are done. I know we did get the total location/package reset in March, but Demarco was pretty clear that took a minor miracle to pull together and not to expect anything like that anytime soon going forward. And really, I have no issue with the setting or packaging, the stagnant bumps are my only complaint. As for scene selection, that’s always been a little hit and miss for me. For some reason, they are willing to look 20+ episodes ahead on Naruto when choosing scenes, but every other show it seems like they won’t venture outside of episode 1. That wouldn’t be a huge deal if we had periodic full block refreshes, but without them we end up with situations like now where we are about to air the last episode of Lupin while still running scenes from episode 0. Makes the bumps feel kinda pointless.
  22. I actually thought the two sets of bumps idea was a good one. I think they first did that in response to Naruto having the YOU’RE A FATTY FATSO one for too damn long every single week. If they had a kinda obnoxious one you didn’t see it weekly at least. And these days, with how often they double up shows, having an extra set of bumps on deck saves them a lot of rushed efforts on weeks they do that. But if that system is making it so they can’t update the bumps at all, by all means go back to the old way. IMO we should have a refresh every 4 months minimum. That’s three times a year, I don’t think that’s asking for too much. It would also be nice if the people on bump writing duty actually watched the shows and didn’t fill the bumps with soon to be dated references or outright mistakes. In the current pool, here’s the ones I noticed. 1. TOM and Sara talk about Setsuna being dead. Never should have been a bump as it was out of date after the first episode 2. TOM pronounces Moroha and Setsuna incorrectly. This one is on Blum, not the bump writers 3. “Devil Fruit sure is tasty!” No TOM, it’s explicitly stated that they taste terrible 4. “Let’s board the Merry go round!” Come on Sara, that wasn’t even the name of the old ship, which they sent off in the episodes Toonami aired many years ago 5. TOM talks about all the treasures in London Lupin will steal even though we left London 12 weeks ago Take me back to the days of the meme ones like Tomsaiga

  24. I know they would never do it, I just wish they would. Fans have been getting smarter, we already see people calling a repeat of last fall. Might they be wrong? Boy I sure hope so but I’m not optimistic. The point being, posting week to week stall schedules is the exact same thing as just telling us nothing is coming. We aren’t dumb, we can put the pieces together. Every stall schedule contributes to the Toonami is doomed fire. I will give them credit on one thing, unlike last year, they aren’t making us wait with bated breath till the very last second to reveal nothing. They fed us the rest of October pretty close to the start of the month, and to my point, knowing well ahead of time they have nothing takes a lot of the frustration out over them cutting it down to the wire which gives a false hope the are hammering something out. I do agree about block length. I would think at the very least, they would trim off the rerun hour. That doesn’t help with the acquisition issue, but it does mean 1 hour less of bumps to make which seems to be another trouble factor for them lately. And now with 3 of their originals gone for good, that really sliced into their potential rerun pool. And if down the road Toonami gets back to a healthier place, there’s no reason they can’t tack that hour back on. Right now though? They aren’t in a good place for it. And with both slots emptying out the same night and a schedule to reveal regardless, November would be the perfect time to trim up the schedule.
  25. Man, I had a feeling this episode would dip because it was pretty slow, didn’t expect it to be this bad though. Really bad turn for HCC, this means at least 1/4 of the show did absolutely awful
