I have never seen a front loader that loads games without fail first time every time. Another thing to consider would be getting an everdrive/flash cart. You can load roms on those and they play just as if you playing the actual carts since it uses the actual hardware and not emulation. They are a little expensive but you could use that and keep on your games on the shelf instead of switching carts constantly. Also of course it's the only way you'd likely ever play expensive as hell games like Little Samson and such on original hardware. I have yet to get one myself but everything I've seen/heard/read about it seems worth it and I might get one next year.

Yes, clean the system. Also clean your games. Might take a while but games are a bitch to start if the system and/or game is dirty. The top loaders are a lot more reliable at reading carts. But if you want A/V component you have to get it modded.
