We were trying out IPB but it really didn't have the featureset we wanted. There was a lot of stuff missing that we take for granted on SMF. I could have developed it and written plugins but I really don't have that kind of time with my current day job.

It has about 10x the resources this one does. I'll be freezing the boards and moving everything in about 24 hours. For some people it could take up to 72 hours for the domain to redirect correctly, so you may see a white page with a redirect link until then. If we have any load problems after the server move I'll have to look into changing up the software from SMF again, but I don't really anticipate that.

Anyways I'm gonna get really drunk this weekend then I'll do it late Monday night so the board will be up all day on the 4th so you losers don't have to hang out with your families. I mean losers in a very affectionate way.

Cloudflare is what makes the forum load faster. It caches data so the server doesn't have to send you stuff that hasn't changed and get bogged down. Cloudflare GOOD. Not bad. Good.

We're on a 6 core / 12 thread with 8GB of RAM right now. RAM isn't the issue. It's processor power. You're on a VPS just like we are, and unless you're willing to pay for dedicated like I'm going to have to do, you'll have the same problems if you get the same level of active userbase. Load problems come from processing multiple sets of SQL queries at the same time.
