I got 2 figures from blind bags at Youmacon, but I haven't intentionally bought bought a new figure in a while. I did try to look for a Yona figure, but there are none that I could find.

With so many shows streaming, the same issue I have with buying anime comes up in figures: it's so much harder for someone to stick out enough for me to look for it, unless it's really phenomenal.

 

She could have so many great poses, too. I'd like a later series Yona, but a sheltered princess Yona would be good too.The almost total lack of Yona merch is not a good sign for a second season, sadly. And it sounds like they do something interesting with Zeno, the Yellow Dragon Warrior, too.

 

Ah, not even the fourth volume of the Yona manga has come out, and it sounds like that one doesn't even introduce Shin-ah.

Just picked up Noragami Aragoto LE BD box.  Paid more than I'd have liked, but I was afraid it might sell out before Christmas, which is where I got the first season LE box for like 35 bucks a year and a half ago, and I need them to match. 

 

Now my dilemma is whether I want to pay Aniplex, who I keep hoping will just go out of business here, for the two Magi boxes.  $119 each, but they list for $300 each.  I know that, normally, list is meaningless, and saying "60% off!" is a marketing gimmick since list is whatever they say it is, but that $300 is actually in line with their normal pricing, and $119 for 25 episodes isn't that unreasonable compared to other distributors' prices.  Things seem to be running around $40-$45 for 11-13 episodes, so this is only about 25% more expensive, which is pretty good for Aniplex.  I don't think Blue Exorcist ever dropped much under $300 for 26 episodes, and it looks like they sold out anyway, and then there's Fate Zero and Garden of Sinners which you have to sell your firstborn to afford, if you can find them (the sets, not your firstborn).  Even now they're asking $90 for 6 episodes (plus a booklet) of Erased.

 

So...am I a sucker if I get these or is this sort of a bargain because Aniplex?

The MSRP is probably just incorrect. If it was any kind of a misprice, I can't imagine it wouldn't have been fixed by now (it's been 3 weeks since it went up for pre-order at this point), or that they would honor a pricing mistake of $120 per set even if that were the case. The recent Madoka Magica blu-ray set has the same price with an MSRP of $150, which is probably what the MSRP of these sets should be. Then again, Madoka Magica has only 13 episodes, and these are about double that, so... Actually, the Durarara blu-ray box set has like 25 episodes and is $130 with an MSRP of $160, so it's basically in line with that. Whatever the situation, if it's something you are really sure you want to own and you don't have a problem paying for it right away, pre-ordering it now wouldn't be a bad idea simply because it's unlikely, given this is Aniplex, that the price will ever be discounted much in the future, if at all.

 

Keep in mind, this was released a while ago by them on DVD, and it's probably going to be basically bare bones type of sets with fairly cheap packaging and little bonus content.

Well, the $300 MSRP was in their official release and they haven't retracted it, so I don't think it's a typo, just an infomercial-type "you could pay $500 for this at other stores, but we're selling it for $19.95!" pitch.  I think Durarara is just them admitting nobody's going to pay their usual prices for the last season anymore.

 

Yes, it's barebones, but I don't know about the packaging.  Nothing fancy, but I'd hope it's at least a chipboard box and not a paper thin sleeve.  With AoA, even if they throw in extras (other than books, which I never get around to reading), they don't subtitle the Japanese content, which kinda makes it pointless to even include for most people.

 

I guess my biggest worry is all the complaints I've heard about their disks frequently being defective and what a headache it is to get them to fix it.  I've got stuff in my Pile of Shame from a year ago, so I don't know how quickly I'd get on it to check them.

Eh, I doubt they bother checking the details on their press releases once they go out, so probably no way they'd notice a mistake like that unless someone messaged them about it to bring it to their attention, which probably nobody has done in this case because it's an essentially meaningless detail. The retail price only has any real actual meaning for when companies let multiple places carry their product and set their own prices for it. Aniplex only distributes to Right Stuf, and probably has strict control over the actual pricing, so the sale price is really all that matters. Could be of course, that I'm wrong, and it's a new sale tactic by them, but I really doubt it simply because I can't believe they'd ever think something like that would ever really work.

 

I think the chances of these having chipboard boxes anyway is practically zero, given the $130 Durarara one didn't get one. Did I say bares bones? I meant wishbones. Defective Aniplex discs though? I haven't heard much of that before. What shows have you heard about having them?  :-\
