Jman Posted January 16 Posted January 16 If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That seems to be the mantra here. I do dislike the hard port stubs though, but those might be to reduce the dreaded drift. Quote
SwimOdin Posted yesterday at 02:35 AM Posted yesterday at 02:35 AM Looks neat, it’s the first time since basically the SNES that Nintendo made a new system without INNOVATION. Games are fucking $90, though. I will stick to portable PCs. Steam is cheap. Quote
Raptorpat Posted yesterday at 02:47 AM Posted yesterday at 02:47 AM I watched today's Nintendo direct. Idk, maybe I'm at a point in life where I can't keep up anymore. I feel like the switch 1 could have five more years of life in it. I was real intrigued that their way to prevent scalpers is to open up pre-orders first to Nintendo online subscribers with a certain threshold of game activity. Probably more intrigued about that than having to start over a whole console. Quote
rpgamer Posted yesterday at 05:51 AM Posted yesterday at 05:51 AM Only a little surprised they're going with another sequel system, given how much of a disaster the Wii U was.... Guess they're banking on that "2" making it much clearer this isn't just the same thing in a new package. Personally... yeah, if I'm gonna buy another system, it'd probably be Steam. I usually really enjoy Nintendo first-party games, but Zelda and Mario were such departures that I don't really have a lot of optimism or anticipation for future installments.. Quote

SwimOdin Posted yesterday at 01:05 PM Posted yesterday at 01:05 PM Now seeing a lot of speculation that the game prices have the tariffs built in, and that makes sense, but it’s pricing me out regardless. Thanks Trump. Quote
PenguinBoss Posted yesterday at 06:04 PM Posted yesterday at 06:04 PM Nintendo is also making a region-locked Japanese version that is about $120 cheaper than the others. Just in case you need further proof of the tariffs definitely saving us money. Quote

Thanks Trump. Makes sense for the physical. The digital games still be $20 more? That's just old fashioned corporate greed. It's enough to make me want a Steam Deck. Quote
SwimOdin Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I feel weirdly pessimistic about a product that’s not out and I was probably not going to buy. I was gifted a Switch, wasn’t planning on even getting it. I love Nintendo but I can’t do games that pricey, and their first party titles rarely drop in price, so I can’t even play the waiting game. Please, Bandai Namco, make Duskbloods just console exclusive. Quote

Raptorpat Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Quote The video game company Nintendo said Friday that the pre-orders for their highly anticipated new console, Nintendo Switch 2, will be delayed due to President Donald Trump’s announcement of global tariffs. “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” Nintendo said in a statement on Friday. The company added its early June launch date remains unchanged. The delay by Nintendo for purchasing the system is one of the highest profile consumer-facing reactions to the president’s tariff rollout, highlighting its far-reaching effects around the world — even into the gaming industry. Nintendo announced their pre-order date in a press event on Wednesday, the same day as Trump’s “Liberation Day” when he levied a minimum 10 percent tariff across the board — sending shock waves around the world. But as tech stores and game sellers across the country prepared for the onslaught of pre-orders for the new Switch, U.S. markets were tumbling and U.S. stocks suffered their worst day since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Nintendo’s announcement. Nintendo is headquartered in Japan, which will face a 24 percent “reciprocal” tariff, in addition to the 25 percent tax on auto imports that the Trump administration put into effect. But Nintendo’s manufacturing is at least partly located in Vietnam — a decision made by the company during the first Trump administration to avoid tariffs against China, where their production was originally based. Both countries are set to be heavily hit by Trump’s new tariffs. Vietnam is subject to a 46 percent “reciprocal” tariff, after allegedly charging the U.S. 90 percent in tariffs, and China will get a 34 percent tariff, after allegedly charging the U.S. 67 percent in tariffs. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/04/04/trump-tariffs-nintendo-switch-00006655 Quote
SwimOdin Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago It’s wild because I thought the tariffs were already built in. Quote
