Jman
Watanabe and DeMarco are two peas in a pod. Two guys chasing their glory days while steadfast in avoiding wanting to play the greatest hits. 1
PokeNirvash
Whatever, I'm still diggin' it over a year later and eagerly await its premiere.

I'm sure the workers did the best they could, but yeah...

It's like paying for / going to the hospital to get liposuction but they perform a circumcision instead.
MasqueradeOverture
Sincere question, how much input did Watanabe have on the final project? Because this looks cheap as fuck and un-Watanabe-like from the looks of that clip. Also, it's giving me Cyberpunk vibes and this looks inferior to Edgerunners in every way.
[classic swim]
Apparently from the panel Watanabe said he was sick of Bebop and this is nothing like Bebop and the fans agreed. Character’s running and jumping around exactly like Spike, so I still kinda see it. You can tell it’s not gonna have the budget or production value of an anime from 1998, so that’s where the comparison if any stops. Not like I’m begging for it to be a sequel series in order to be good. But I also don’t think being vaguely reminded of the more popular show is that bad.

It doesn't even have the production values of Space Dandy wtf are those blobby vehicle CG models

I don’t remember the exact reason why Watanabe was disappointed in Dandy specifically but yeah. I don’t know, I usually don’t watch newer shit for part of that reason. Either too flashy or too wonky for my eyes.

Either too flashy or too wonky for my eyes. Budget cuts & crunch time is affecting this industry hard. And then when it does look great, it either gets fan complaints (Chainsaw Man) or it goes unnoticed (Heavenly Delusion).

As with most Japanese creators, they don’t really care about opinions outside of Japan. So no love for Dandy at home meant the project was a failure. This will be an interesting problem for Lazarus. We know Watanabe wants it to be a hit with Japan, but it’s being made for Toonami. And the only way it can succeed in Japan is if he tells Demarco to sit down and shut up and just let him do all the work. But will Demarco’s ego allow that to happen? Toonami originals have also not been widely available in Japan as other seasonal shows usually are, so it will be interesting to see if Lazarus drops in Japan close to its Toonami premier. Well, that adds more context to his bit of resentment with Bebop besides already saying everything there is to be said on it long ago. Still, all it takes is that one big name on his portfolio to see that he had western appeal perfectly in mind before. Lupin III further down historically was the same way. It’d be sad if that was a concern for him so far into his career. Especially when he’s already upset with the thought of typecasting. OwlChemist81
If Invincible Fight Girl is just a 2-week stopgap at 12:30 while Rick & Morty finishes its run at 3 AM then that means Lazarus would premiere on 1/25/25.
