It's a character redemption that's kind of silly, if you think about it. Vegeta killed billions, if not trillions of people. And we can see here he enjoyed it and wasn't just "following orders." But fiction isn't meant to be one for one like real life, I suppose. 1

It's just one of those things that went over a lot easier in my early twenties. I don't remember even giving it a second thought back then. If Akira made him slightly less naturally violent, his transformation might be easier to believe.
