I bought the Samsung Q9000 last month. True 8k, it preparation for the new consoles.... 

I can now watch porn 4 inches from my TV. There is a penis joke implied in here with the distance from the TV.

I've never bought a Vizio. We have a 65'' Sony Smart TV in the living room, and 2 55'' Samsung 4K Smart TV's in our bedroom. Our boy has a knock off brand 43'' in his room, only because he broke his LG TV, so I wasn't spending much on another one. 

The 2 Samsung's in our bedroom are my favorites.

I can't get behind the 8K thing. Especially not with only 4 inches to work with.

Honestly, I can't tell much difference between 4K and regular HD when it comes to movies. I jumped on the 4K bandwagon hard. Got 2 4K TV's and 4 4K Blu-ray players. But I still mostly by regular Blu-rays. Not a huge library of 4K movies out there.

When I work from home on certain days, I also use it as a work monitor when process mapping. There isn't much from movie standpoint out yet... but it's getting there and I just couldn't seeing buying another 4k, when the new tech was out and somewhat affordable.

Not like the idiots that bought the curved and 3D tvs.

I'm not really a fan of Sony, or Samsung for that matter and avoid their products. Only reason I own a PS4 is for Nier Automata and Persona 5.

With the 4k tv, I wish I had a better pc hooked up to it, I used a bunch of leftover parts to build that one, the pc is mainly used as a Plex server for all my shows and movies. The pc is pretty good, just not ideal for 4k gaming.

Curved was a shit idea, and I already wear glasses, so I wasn't up for having to wear another pair to see a 3D display.

What size did you get?

Has to be a mistake. 

Rocket League seems like it would be a bit hard on it. Like you said, so much real estate on the screen. 

I'm gonna shoot for tax time to get the PS5 and Xbox X Series. Give it a few months to work out the kinks in the initial release, just like every time a new console is released.

Rocket League seems like it would be a bit hard on it. Like you said, so much real estate on the screen.

Everything larger than 82 or 85, depending on the brand, goes up astronomically the first couple years.

The Sony TV we have is garbage. Pure trash. But these Samsungs are the bomb. One especially. You don't even have to be in the same room to use the remote. Also voice activated. I just got a $400 sound bar for one of them. Sounds pretty intense.

8k in its current state is a gimmick. 4k has become more mainstream but it's still not as commonplace as it should be. TV service providers typically broadcast shows at 720 or 1080. You can stream 4k from services like Netflix but they charge you more for that, and locally played 4k content will always look better than streamed 4k content. I've downloaded a few movies in native 4k and the difference is definitely there and noticeable. Even gaming at native 4k resolution is pretty nice to look at. Some time back I was playing Ass Creed Black Flag on it, that game came out in 13 or 14, and it looks very nice in 4k. I had to play with medium settings to get 60 fps, but it still looked better than if I were to play it at a lower resolution but with higher settings.

I doubt they're moving many with that price on them. Most I've seen are a couple grand and up slightly. You can't keep up with TV technology. Just like computers. I don't see how anything can be seen more clearly than it is right now though. I know 8K media is very limited. Have you even gotten to test out the 8K on it yet?

Some men see the forest through the trees. By the time I was ready to buy a new tv flat screens weighed 4 ounces, so I just asked a guy what a good tv brand is because Hitachi isn't carried by everyone, or commonly, and I don't even know how their flat screen TV's are. I dont know of any person owning one.

Once I go to a person's house and I don't need to turn the tv on and off to make it work properly I might think about getting a smart tv. They do have a lot of nice features, but fuck restarting my tv.

Nah, but again, with the new Xbox and PS coming, as well has how much I've been taking my work home for projects... it works.

Back years ago my parents bought a 55 or 60" curved screen 4k tv, they returned it in less than a week. Curved screens are good when it comes to playing pc games at a desk, since you're typically sitting directly in front of your screen, within 2 feet or so. Then you'll see the difference. But curved screens for TV is the dumbest fukin thing there is. Unless you're sitting dead center to it at the optimal distance you won't experience anything, and if you're not in that position it'll look worse than it normally would.

The Samsung is great, it syncs up to alexa and Google assistant. So I can tell it what to do, switching ports, etc... also the samsung as a one port hookup box... so no plugging in 4 hdmis

I have an Xbox One S and an Xbox One X. I can see some minor detail changes, but not enough to go out and upgrade the console like I did. Also,, upscaling is the biggest gimmick. There's really no such thing as upscaling. If you are watching something, say a DVD that was filmed in 720p, you can't upscale that shit to make it 4K. It's just not there. The pixels aren't there. I try to tell people that who are in the market for upgrading. If you want 4K, you have to have a 4K TV and a true 4K Blu-ray player. Not an upscaler.

That hookup box is a major selling point on its own. Nothing is more aggravating than having to unplug something so you can plug something else in. Our TV's have 3 ports, but that's all we need. Luckily. Sound bar and Xbox on one. PlayStation and Blu-ray player on the other one.

For my 4k tv I have a PS4 Pro, my second pc, and a Switch hooked up to it. The Switch suffers so much screen tearing at 4k with the way it stretches the image to fit the resolution. Playing Breath of the Wild or Fire Emblem on it looks pixelated as hell. The PS4 Pro fairs better but that system I wouldn't consider ideal for 4k.

Currently PC gaming (with good hardware obviously) is the only true way to experience 4k gaming. I'm sure the new consoles will finally be able to handle it more ideally.

The best one I've seen is turning on a game and the picture switches to game mode and it's perfect. Absolutely perfect for gaming. And since that's 80 percent of my tv use...

Near the end of it's life you'd have to kick it on the right side for it to turn on. Have the channels weren't even numbers on the knob, some were letters. Like PBS was W and Disney was A but Nick was 8 and is still 8 to this day in my area. I remember going to another kids house for the first time and saying put channel A on and he had no idea what the fuck I was saying.

I'm not a fan of the feature that will turn on everything hooked up to your TV when you turn it on. I had to turn that off. I didn't need the game system and Blu-ray player to turn on when I turned on my TV. But even with that feature turned off, all I have to do is turn on my Xbox and it'll take me to my Xbox, from whatever screen I'm currently on. No more switching inputs on the remote.

That's not being an asshole. Buying a TV is like buying a car. You have to pick the right one for you. When I'm in the market for a new one, I spend a lot of time comparing them. Not by price, but by features.

I had to curb my dad of that as tech got more delicate. He tried hitting our first HD tv, whole thing just cracked. Then bitched that it was junk because a tv shouldn't break when you "tap" it with a metal wrench on the side.

Sony's probably the best, but I never liked their "our products don't have issues" attitude when I had to take stuff in for repair.  I used to buy Panasonic stuff because I knew it would hold up, but they've pretty much disappeared.  The 55" Samsung I bought came with about 5 dead pixels.  

CR has the top 10 as all Sony or LG.  #11 is a Samsung.

opposite, I feel like I'm going to die and get claustrophobic when I'm in a small car. I think it's because my first car was a fucking death trap my parents bought for $200 off of my cousin. I was way too big for that car. I even had to tilt my head and even then It was smashed against the roof. If someone else was in the car with me I'd have to roll the window down to stick my arm out or else it would smash into the window glass.

Who still uses the numbers on their remotes? I haven't had to use a number on a remote in over ten years. It's not like back in the day when you only had local channels and had to punch in the channel number. Unless that's how cable works. I've never had cable because I've always lived in the swamp. We only had Dish and that wasn't available until I was an adult.

Years back when I was doing my FX 8350 pc build I had 4 faulty CPU. That was back in 2012. I finally got the reimbursement check from their warranty. Only took them 8 damn years. If the check didn't come with a letter I wouldn't even have remembered what the hell I was getting a random check for.

Zenith was bought out by Lucky Goldstar (LG).  The last console models I sold had an "AFC" switch that, along with a little tweeking on channel 3, would remove the local cable channel's scrambling.  All the premium channels were sub bands of channel 3 on that cable, including some that weren't part of any package they offered.

I use yoututbe TV so it's pretty much like the guide function offered by cable companies. I still use the numbers on the remote for my stereo though. My smart tv I got last year though doesn't even have numbers on the remote that came with it. Just power, a d-pad, back button, and select. Everything is done via the menus now.

We had a scrambler on ours. Only reason we had Disney, Showtime, HBO, and Max growing up. Because when things went digital we sure as hell never upgraded.
