The contemporary Puritan lifestyle is less of an honest way of living and more of an excuse to get rid of people you don’t like.

Soooo........social redlining? Basically....white people's 1950s again? Got it.

.........Yeah.....because that's what is ruining this place. Sure.

It represents the cultural and ideological foundations of the U.S. Founding Fathers? All puritans. It's what made this country into the mess that it is.

What I just said was sort of the point of the thread... If you were talking about the boards, I wasn't really referring to that in the op.

Yes. You said that, and nothing else. I hinted that it was deeper than that. You missed that entirely, just saying the same thing over and over. So, I give up, since it is the same apology on repeat.

The first colonists were not Puritans. The pilgrims were a different breed. The later colonists were Puritans. The Founding Fathers, not so much. Puritans were a radicalized religious and political group who were set on reforming and purifying the Church of England of what they considered to be unacceptable residues of Roman Catholicism. Most escaped England due to religious persecution. But like England, the Puritan settlers here, also supported the idea of religious persecution. The Founding Fathers believed what they believed individually. Just like we all do today. There is no blanket statement regarding their religious beliefs. Not saying the Puritans were the best group of people, but this post leaves a lot to be desired.

You got to be specific, dude. I can't hear the tone of your voice or see your face. Your first post had what seemed like a sarcastic tone that appeared to indicate there are deeper issues than puritanism, (without pointing them out) and I came back saying that puritanism is the foundation of our entire country and culture; there are no deeper roots and all other issues we have stem from that at least in part? How was that missing your point? It didn't. Nobody has apologized for anything, thread does not contain one apology... Seems like you're making stuff up at this point. Puritanism is characterized chiefly by basically repressing all emotion, and a nation that represses it's emotions are easy to manipulate emotionally. That's my point here, and you're trying to make it about something else without elaborating as to what that something else even is. If you want to make up excuses to gaslight someone, at least manufacture a tangible referent for it.

Puritanism was the dominant philosophy of the region at that time. You couldn't get anywhere without being in good standing with the church. So many of them came here that they influenced the future of our culture more than any other group. Not saying things haven't changed since then or that everyone back then was a puritan, but America still has it's roots in puritanism.

Nah. Your thread is putting the major blame for everything wrong in this country on religion. Which simply isn't true. I'm with l_b. Although he didn't provide more context, his statement didn't really need more context. Point missed.
