cyberbully
I'm assuming he's just getting acclimated to the new environment, but I'm a bit concerned. It's a larger tank (5 gal) than his old comfy home, which he's had for around 3 years....ANd he was fine in there, so the change was really for my son and I.....But his food just floats at the surface now. I don't usually have time to just observe him but since I've been home for the last 3 days, I keep peeking in on him. He mostly swims at the bottom, which is normal for him....But even when he's at the surface, he doesn't seem interested in the food. It's his same food save for the bloodworms I give him on the weekends, but he usually eats as soon as he sees it.....Been to a few site that say this is normal after the change, but part of me thinks the change may be stressing him out. I didn't use the filter because I can tell he doesn't like those, but I'm wondering if this tank is too big for him alone.
Vamped
I dunno I had mine in a 5 gallon and he was pretty cool about it. I put some stuff in there for him to swim through because he liked shooting through holes.
lupin_bebop
............So.....you’re afraid that the bigger tank change is freaking him out and you’re thinking about getting him a companion?

His activity is fine....Just worried he ain't grubbin'
NaBarney
Three years is pretty old for a betta, so the change might be harder on him than most fish.... they're also pretty intelligent/sensitive fish so he might just be some kind of depressed/totally freaking out completely. Also 5 gal is still really small, why not a 10?

Ten gals are usually cheaper than 5 gals and everything... Edited December 28, 2019 by NaBernie2020

Oh, well 10gals are just $10 at Walmart and most of the smaller nano tanks i see that aren't just a 2gal fish bowl usually cost more than that. GunStarHero
He's old so its probably just stressing him out since you basically changed the main habitat he had in his life. Give him some time to acclimate. But they can get depressed over seemingly nothing. Did you transfer all of his stuff from the old tank? I've had fish that just slumped over like drama queens when I forgot to give them back their hidey holes or tank ornaments. 1

One of my boys is about to be 4, and I just always keep his OG stuff with him if possible. Hopefully it's a comfort for your betta to have his stuff, as well.
