Half feel like he has a point, the other half are going “OK Boomer.” I think he has a point, but it was phrased rather awkwardly.
Daos
Yeah that definitely was a poor way to say that. I think his larger point is why almost every guy in anime is asexual and shows no interest in girls until they're suddenly married somehow. And if two people actually are dating in an anime, for some reason they're always abstinent. Basically anime teens are typically extremely unrealistic in the way they depict teen relationships. But this is coming from a country where they blur the wangs in their porn, so they may have a few hangups.
The1gairon
Sexual intimacy isn't required for a good movie. "See them as my rivals"?? Dude, join 2019 and be a grown-up. You are sounding borderline sexist.
PokeNirvash
Quote He then went on to describe Shinkai's works as "stories about a boy and a girl who are always stretching out their hands towards each other," and said, "And yet the boy's hand never reaches the girl's crotch." 🤣 That's our Kill 'em All Tomino for ya. But this is coming from a country where they blur the wangs in their porn, so they may have a few hangups. I mean, that's pretty much how it's been in Japan for many years now. More and more teen boys and young adults don't know how to express attraction for girls / women, them getting put off way too easily. Also considering as far as asian countries goes, Japan is still living in the past with the way they think women should live. Even in an Asian country like China women are free to do whatever, but it's still a thing in Japan where men are expected to be the sole provider for the household, and women at the most should only have part time jobs. And how once they become mothers, the men on average no longer sees them the same way. But now in the 21st women you have women that are taking charge, and also going out there and having careers and making more money than men, which is something that goes against whats been the norm, so it's basically a case where they don't know how to adjust to that, so they just give up and don't even try. In anime for the most part you only ever see two types of characters, someone that's all about girls and comes across as a major perv, or someone that acts almost or completely asexual, I guess with the way social life is changing over there that's probably how boys are viewed or are expected to act now. In fact, he remained in space for many years to try and seek out any presence she may have in the universe after her untimely end. 1993: Char needs a tight, thick pussay! Char needs a BIG ASS! Char's gotta fuuuuuuuck! It hasn't been much of a secret that Tomino had become bitter about his contemporaries. What makes Tomino an even more bitter pill is how people try to legitimize his bitterness against KyoAni shows or Makoto Shinkai's work due to the sole virtue of having made Gundam. Meanwhile, it took other directors to give the Gundam series any kind of sexual expression beyond platonic handholding, kind words of endearment, or side-remarks from other characters. When Reconguista landed with a thud, it was hard to see Tomino's recent criticism of other shows that have had a better grasp of humanity as anything but sour grapes. Of course his needs from a significant other would change based on the motive of the hour.
