I took uber for the first and second time when my brother and I went to a concert in San Francisco earlier this year, and I used them the third and fourth time last Sunday two Sundays ago when I went to a concert in LA. I've only ever used uber for food, but there are ways you can take them with safety precautions. Even if thats lying about meeting your "husband/wife/gf/bf" at the destination and talking with someone on the cell phone for the whole ride.
