rpgamer Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 Been curating a playlist at work, and for the sake of variety, been adding some... unusual selections that I dig up on youtube. And, as we all know, once you start going down the youtube rabbit hole, things get weird. There will be more. Many more. Share your own weirdness. Or don't. I mostly just needed somewhere to collect these vids and also maybe subject more innocent ears to the insanity. Quote
rpgamer Posted August 24, 2019 Author Posted August 24, 2019 For the sake of clarity, this isn't exactly my own personal music taste. That's plenty strange on its own. No. This thread will be for all the things I find immensely amusing. Largely due to subversion of one type or another. Take something familiar, and mash it up with something else. I've come to learn not to doubt in the internet. No matter how terrible an idea I've had is, in this case, bluegrass Metallica, somebody else with talent has already had this terrible idea and seen it to fruition. 1 Quote
rpgamer Posted August 24, 2019 Author Posted August 24, 2019 This group makes bluegrass metal sound pretty normal by comparison. Quote
rpgamer Posted August 24, 2019 Author Posted August 24, 2019 Just a heads up, this thread will be going a bit international. Quote
rpgamer Posted August 24, 2019 Author Posted August 24, 2019 "What if we took modern rock/metal music and arranged it as if it were written 500 years ago?" Said nobody, ever. Or, these mad lads, evidently. 1 Quote
rpgamer Posted August 25, 2019 Author Posted August 25, 2019 So I'm sure by now most people have heard of The Hu and their Mongolian folk metal. And that's cool and all. How about a step further. Mongolian folk, blended with Latvian bagpipes and drums. You know you're pretty deep on youtube when the aspect ratio starts looking weird. 1 1 Quote
rpgamer Posted August 28, 2019 Author Posted August 28, 2019 First I posted modern music made in the old style. Now, an old song made modern. Quote
rpgamer Posted September 4, 2019 Author Posted September 4, 2019 My tastes skew more towards old style. Quote
rpgamer Posted September 11, 2019 Author Posted September 11, 2019 This guy should do a duet with the otamatone. 1 Quote
rpgamer Posted January 3, 2020 Author Posted January 3, 2020 This one's for you, @katt_goddess 1 Quote
rpgamer Posted January 3, 2020 Author Posted January 3, 2020 Fuck me, how did this group slip under my radar before. Viking gospel metal inspired by IKEA. That's multiple layers of subversion. Incredible. Quote
rpgamer Posted January 3, 2020 Author Posted January 3, 2020 So I guess Italy is on the cutting edge of weird lately? Quote

rpgamer Posted January 21, 2020 Author Posted January 21, 2020 I feel like your definition of "weird" might be a bit tame by my standards. Quote
rpgamer Posted January 23, 2020 Author Posted January 23, 2020 Posted that one ages ago. But you've got the right idea. Here's a related classic from the old boards. Still not sure I know what's going on. Quote
rpgamer Posted February 21, 2020 Author Posted February 21, 2020 That's closer to what gets my attention. The world needs more acoustic folk Celtic covers of things. Quote
rpgamer Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 I was starting to think youtube was running out of weird shit. Quote
rpgamer Posted June 11, 2020 Author Posted June 11, 2020 Geisha Rock (ok, it's just an April Fool's vid by group Band-Maid, and j-rock isn't really all that weird, but still, these ladies are phenomenally talented) Quote
rpgamer Posted September 5, 2020 Author Posted September 5, 2020 Bill McClintock and DJ Cummbund are now my go-tos for cursed mashups. Quote
rpgamer Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 Aw damn. Didn't take long for that Devil WAPed Down to Georgia vid to get taken down. And looks like McClintlock has had a couple copyright strikes, putting him on the verge of shutdown. Disappointing. Quote
rpgamer Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 (edited) VR anime streamer girl rapping in Japanese/English. This isn't actually super weird, but, I've fallen down the well on this hololive shit. Edited September 23, 2020 by rpgamer Quote
katt_goddess Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Don't even ask how this popped up in my feed, I have no idea. Quote
rpgamer Posted March 4, 2021 Author Posted March 4, 2021 Ahh, yeah. Kinda surprised I never shared that one. Saw it a couple years ago. Is brilliant. I haven't had much cause to dig through youtube anymore for music ideas, so kinda stuck with the old standbys. Quote
rpgamer Posted July 1, 2021 Author Posted July 1, 2021 Been a while since youtube sent me somewhere weird... Quote
rpgamer Posted August 24, 2021 Author Posted August 24, 2021 I wonder if American metal heads are ever embarrassed that a bunch of Japanese ladies are probably shredding better than anything we've put out in recent years. Quote
rpgamer Posted August 24, 2021 Author Posted August 24, 2021 I also clicked on this one not knowing what to expect, and it only took a few moments for the name to finally click and I recognized he did the music for Paranoia Agent (and others, obviously). Not being familiar with most of his work, I just thought the soundtrack for that was deliberately trippy for the vibe. Guess it turns out the dude is a trip all on his own. Quote
rpgamer Posted August 29, 2021 Author Posted August 29, 2021 I might be consuming too much Japanese content. Youtube recommendations get weird. Quote
rpgamer Posted October 19, 2021 Author Posted October 19, 2021 It's Raining Men. But, FABULOUS. Quote
rpgamer Posted October 29, 2022 Author Posted October 29, 2022 I... what? I know I've been down the mashup rabbit hole, but...? I guess it's some sort of meme to mash this Slipknot song into anything? Bold. I guess I could go for more "anime songs mixed with things that are very not anime." Although... a lot of anime songs just get sorted into "generic music" in my brain, unless they really stand out.. Quote
rpgamer Posted August 21, 2023 Author Posted August 21, 2023 It's rare to find a song/style and just be left staring in wonder trying to figure out what you're even listening to.. Quote
