Lol maybe so.

my mom is getting to be too much at times tho and i dont wanna be living with another parent when they die. when my dad died on me, it was fucking hell man. his "wife" came into our apartment and took all the furniture except my bed. i dont expect the vultures to be that bad when my mom passes but im not going to be as nice as i was the first time. might end up in jail.

Then who's gonna babysit when you're out whoring around?

Rhetorical.

You aren't moving anywhere. Your mom's place is free.

but its not my moms house. its really my oldest brother's.. see my grandma raised my brother like he was her own son so she left the house to him in his will. hes an asshole and walks into the house thinking he owns the place (cuz he does) and starts doing what he wants with my shit and i dont wanna put up with it after my mom dies.

i would use my insurance money to fix the place up but i know they are just going to fuck me over and like .. move their own kid in there.. or something - once is nice and renovated. i just know it.

That is possible. It has happened before.

But you should be thinking about a mortgage instead of renting an apartment. You don't want to rent the rest of your life.

You are at the age where a home should be on the radar. Not an apartment.

Our house is paid for. In the past twenty years, the only thing that had to have any sort of repairs was the air conditioner. And that was minor work. Don't pour grease down the sink. Don't run your AC 24/7. Change your air filters. I mean, basic common sense things, and you will keep repairs to a minimum.

Of course, I am one of few people that have never lived in an apartment.

This. I worked in apartment maintenance for 7 years and that is why I'd never live in one.

things we've had to fix since living in the house:

a/c needed to be totally redone (??) mom had to finance repairs

tree root in pipes, yard needed to be dug up

water heater died, $200 copay for new water heater

oven died, had to buy new stove

new fridge

bathroom remodeled.. which needs to be remodeled again because the 1st people left wood under the house and attracted termites.. now we have termite damage

leaky pipes underhouse that stunk it up for months that crackhead fixed

and the house needs an overhaul/remodeling altogether

so yeah... muuuuuuch rather stay in a nice apartment

Just do your research and properly inspect the house you mortgage, and you can avoid all that *knocks on wood* I noted the water heater was new here, the condition of the appliance connections, doors etc..literally just about everything. House shopping is meant to be a pretty time consuming process, but I mean.. it's all so you get what you pay for in the end.. I even had to go back and forth with a few counter offers from the previous owner until I could get some needed repairs done by them before I signed off..
