Organized youth sports these days

Had a convo with a fuddy duddy (older dude that is in sports medicine) and he was trying to convince me that youth sports today shouldn't have any sense of competition in them anymore but it should be all about fun.

Until the age of 13.

Wut?

Like, I didn't need sports when I was growing up to know I wanted to be better than everyone. Kid does a wheelie? Fuck that I will do one longer and off a curb, fuck out of my way normie.

I say, pit them all against each other and then I'll fight the other parents for the best of the best.

Healthy competition is good.

The world has become a huge, throbbing pussy. I got lucky. My son's first experince in organized sports he was on an undefeated baseball team. Thos sparked his competitive nature. He invites kids over and plays games he knows he dominates in (which is pretty much everthing).....My daughter likes singler player activities....i actially wish i was serious about her boxing back in the day, but i guess art is ok.

I think I get what he means, though, even if the idea is preposterous.  Competition is great, but there's a difference between kids one upping each other in a backyard game of two on two, and playing for the pee week league championship.  In particular, the emphasis on organized team sports too early runs the risk of stifling a young athlete's individual exploration of his own abilities.  That doesn't mean team sports are bad, just that kids need space to grow on their own.

I mean, not for nothing, but it's kinda weak to invite people over to play games you know you're way better at than them. Where's the competitive spirit?

Go to someone else's house and play some shit you aren't good at. That'll teach the kid to actually grow as a competitor. Get more well-rounded, y'know?

Nah man it's ALPHA. I bet he's going to grow up and own people on a message board for cartoons too.

We all know the true measure of success in life isn't how you live your life, or the connections you make with people, or having actual human relationships, or making any sort of mark on the world. Fuck that shit. The REAL way you know you made it? High post counts and being an edgelord on a message board that is, actually, an offshoot of a message board for cartoons.

Oh, how I long to have as meaningful of an existence as the pillars of society I encounter here.
