Why do dish drying racks get so fucking dirty?

All my life ive been the one buying new dish racks and throwing old nasty ones out so my parents dont use them in perpetuity

Didnt grow up with a dishwasher. 

We just throw them out but where does all the fucking dirt come from. Jeez.

i mean if something collects water for long enough it'll eventually get mildew or mold. i need a new one because mine is gross

Our water is pretty good actually. Better than Charleston water...it tastes great right out the tap, too.
