Agreed.  That's why we get Tiramisu instead.  Less icing, more whipped cream.

I like it.  Sure it isn't made the traditional way, but so what?  I'm just thankful they don't slather on a thick slab of chocolate icing like they do their eclairs & cream puffs.  Gakk!

A cake like tiramisu, or its rum-cake predecessors, has a fairly complex palette, and covering it with whipped cream is most likely a sign that the cake is missing something.

Yep, it's missing amaretto or brandy.  I've had the real thing at a few Italian Restaurants and of course, it was much better.  But I'm not anywhere near a decent Italian place now, those that I'm near only have cannoli.
