K_N
It's even harder when you realize your scale was calibrated wrong and set to start 13lbs over 0.

MasterBox
LoL who's fault is that? If you want to lose weight, go on the oatmeal diet. Replace 1 meal with oats. Doesn't matter which one. Can use butter, sugar, peaches, raisins, milk, etc. in it to make it taste alright. My ex lost 17 lbs by doing this alone in 2 months but she was also walking 1 mile a day. It may have been the walking why she lost the weight and not the oats, don't know. My brother cut his cholesterol by 27 points in a month by substituting 2 meals with oats and didn't have to go on statins.
Codename: Jackass
It is very hard. Lost 125, gained about 90 back over the span of four years, and losing it the second time around has taken much longer. I rack disciprine.
KreiaDidNothingWrong
A pound is 3500 calories. How many do you need to take in to maintain yourself? Unless you’re pretty active it’s not that many. I can make it on 1400 a day. Unless I’m practicing muh martial arts and then I’ll kick it up to 1800 or so. Its just using what you take in and working off stored up stuff. Don’t fall for memes and fad diets. I was taking in about 2000 a day. I cut out 600. Combined with exercise I lost 12lbs pretty fast tbh. My rate of loss slowed after that but it’s still going. Codename: Jackass
I immediately disregard anyone who tries to tell me anything other than calories in/out. The cabbage soup diet or apple cider vinegar is bullshit or unsustainable.

There is eating right, so that you actually feel like you’ve eaten as opposed to just empty calories, but people who spout the paleo meme when we don’t even know what it was or tell you you’ll lose 30lbs if you stand on your head and drink water upside down for a month or whatever other nonsense are full of shit

wacky1980
my favorite diet fad is the one where you strive to achieve ketoacidosis. sounds dreamy. or, y'know, simple portion control and exercise. which basically boils down to the "calories in < calories out" idea. i started a new exercise thing with the wife this week since we're now past the holiday bingefest and we can focus on fitness again. i plan on dropping about 15-20 pounds by spring. I consume about 1700 calories a day and walk/run about an hour and a half 4 days a week. I once tried a 1300cal diet but I passed out standing up. According to my doctor, my BMR is about 2930 calories a day (I'm an extremely large person, regardless of weight). She recommended a 2200cal per day diet, I'm currently doing 1700 but I think adderall is helping me with that as well as it suppresses appetite. The cabbage soup diet or apple cider vinegar is bullshit or unsustainable. It's 90% CICO. The issue is that CICO only works if you eat a balanced diet. If you eat junk and start exercising your body wont have enough ADP on reserve to actually achieve beta oxidation at a meaningful rate(the process that burns fat) and you'll just get tired without burning much fat at all. But yeah all those dumbass "diets" are just fasting disguised as magic.

The problem is it's not remotely sustainable and deprives your body of things it needs to function normally so when you finally can't take anymore you end up gaining all that weight back. A sheriff's deputy who used to box told me that was the best way to lose weight and keep it off. The sugar and wheat is kind of easy, it is the sodium that is a bitch to cut back on, but you will be much happier for having done so since you won't retain fluid, your BP will be lower, and you'll have more energy. Anyway, good luck. 1

One thing I've noticed though is that any time the subject comes up IRL of diets or weight loss, people always have these half baked or misinformed ideas about how to go about it that make no sense or contain a kernel of truth wrapped in a Gobstopper of garbage, and they usually provide it unsolicited, so I just don't say anything. As soon as you start showing results that other people notice they're all like "hey I heard if you eat beets five times a day you'll drop an extra ten pounds." Check out intermittent fasting, though. I do IF mostly because it helps curb my food cravings. Harvard did some studies on rats that shows it improved blood pressure, blood glucose levels and cholesterol, but they haven't done a study on humans yet. It works for me, but if you're losing weight and feeling good, keep doing your thing. Edited January 20, 2019 by empty
