Funny thing, ONE actually just gave up on drawing OPM and turned it over to Murata. He still writes the story, mind you. Which explains the deviation from the original comic.

he gave up on drawing it because he never meant for it to become as popular as it did, he made it to make fun of overdone shonen manga clichees he hated....basically he was trying to entice the same feeling most people feel when they watch Black Clover....and it backfired

Well it's a superhero parody too.   Though I'm not sure about everything else you said.  I do agree he probably didn't expect it to take off like this.
