as an aside it's humorous to me that NYAV post is basically just 4kids with a name change since it's founded and mostly staffed by Ex 4kids VA's, and it proves what I've been saying all along, that 4kids's actors were talented, the company they worked for was just shit

once they were set free from 4kids they were able to show how great they are

Well no. Only Michael is really the 4Kids alum from there and he's heading it alongside Sheh, who only worked in 4Kids shows sparingly.

NAOTA'S ACTOR! :D:D Hilarious performance!

May I point out Robbie Daymond's excellent performance! He's also Peter Parker in that DisneyXD Spider-Man series, and is in Final Fantasy 15, where he uses that same energy.

he's also this guy

Yup, once they were able to do real localizations they started showing how good they are.

So glad they got to really start strutting their stuff with real projects.

So far eps 1 and 2 are pretty straight-forward. It's when we near the ending when all concepts get TOTALLY lost on me.

I.e. the near ending is when it becomes like the original again

All this robot thing was TOTALLY lost on me.  Now I understand it's more like an early prototype of the Terminator thing Hidomi transforms into to attack Haruko.

Is that what it was?  In the explosion we can see a shadow that kind of looks like that thing.

I'm saying NYAV only run by Michael and Sheh. Anyone else acting on their shows and movies are never there full-time.

Yeah, though I do agree with the point that as a studio they did get to start showing their real talent when NYAV started to get real anime localizations.

For example, I'm really glad they got the recent Gundam OVAs starting back with Unicorn, that was when it became much more common knowledge about the talent they were starting to bring. :)

Jinyu mixed it too early, and made a mess!  The mom's grumpy face. :D

Loved that scene, would have liked to see a few more scenes with them together like that :D

Jinyu's too good, had to change to her for my next avatar. :)

Haha.  Yeah we needed more moments like that, like the ones with Haruko at the house in the original FLCL.

What was your old one?  I kept meaning to ask about it but kept forgetting.

I think it's just occurred to me. The headphones, changing from blue to red, is probably a reference to Canti's own transformation.

Kinda like the headphones are the new Canti. Turning red and using their host to unlock greater power...

Yeah, would have been a lot of fun.

Oh, my previous one was of Zero Two from Darling in the Franxx.

I liked the image for it (even though the show was quite mixed) so I'll probably use it again later.

Hidomi has this odd connection with machinery. She uses technology to shut herself off from reality, and if they're every taken off, it's the only time she shows any kind of emotion as she resists. She undergoes several mechanical transformations coming from her N. O. powers whenever she is faced with something violent in front of her.

Did those light-up, cat headphones look familiar to you? They are very real and can be bought at various stores, and anime/comic conventions. You'd think Adult Swim would get the graces of the designer of these headphones before using them on the main character that plays into her character arc.

https://www.polygon.com/2017/7/3/15915404/flcl-2-3-trailer-cat-ear-headphones

Nope.  Turns out they probably unintentionally didn't think to ask her permission, and now the designer is not taking it well.

"Her headphones look out of place." Uuuuuuuuuh, folks, I'm not sure how much you know about FLCL Progressive? ... but this season takes place in the PRESENT DAY, guy.  Not in 2000, like the OVA took place in.  Plus you then mention how the show is "unique and abstract" in that same sentence, so wouldn't cat headphones make MORE sense to see it in FLCL Progressive too?? Mixed messages here.

Adult Swim may have thought it was an innocent nod to a popular trend, much like how Coca-Cola branding is seen in Tiger and Bunny, and other examples that have been very common in anime nowadays. But unlike Coca-Cola, the cat headphones are patented under one artist who is very active and out-spoken in the anime community, and that spelled trouble.

The article then goes on to say that Adult Swim heard her stance, and the headphones will now be credited to her at the end of each episode in future copies of the show.

I was under the impression that one key difference between Medical Mechanica's headphones and those of Yan are that the cat ears actually serve a function and contain tweeters and woofers, doubling as speakers. Or maybe that's Brookstone's? Well one has that distinction, and the other doesn't.

Edit: Voice actress of Hidomi Xanthe Huynh wore the Brookstone version, which contains the woofer and tweeter in the cat ears, so its wearers can switch from a "personal" mode to a "sharing" mode in which the ears play music. But the FLCL2 version's cat ears just light up and don't contain that feature.
