Blatch
They're right. I don't think there's a better way to celebrate than skipping Toonami entirely. As a side note, since they're doing this weird tactic with staggering the second run, the marathon should be 6 1/2 hours long, making it the absolute longest in Toonami history.

The blocks on 11/2/14 and 3/31/18 were longer -- 7.5 hours long. And on CN Toonami actually aired for 24 hours straight on something called the "Full Cycle" which began on 4/8/00. This is actually as long as a typical broadcast in 2014. I don't know for sure what I'll be doing that night, but I'll most likely watch the 2nd play-through. Daos
Yeah but remember how we said that and ran Kai marathons and found out Kai marathons > the regular schedule even on a holiday? What we should have learned is that you don't have to just write every single holiday off and expect low ratings. This is gonna be Bebop marathon low.
CaptainStarwind
I shouldn't be too surprised that they decided on a Memorial Day marathon again this year, but I thought that maybe they would finally do something different. It's been 6 years since the whole #BringBackToonami campaign that led to Toonami's revival on May 26, 2012. Being that this is the first year that Toonami falls on May 26 since it was revived, I had my hopes that Toonami would do something different for Memorial Day, in honor of it's "re-birthday". A movie, maybe, if they haven't blown this year's budget yet. EVA 3.33 would have been fitting, as much as I hate it, since Toonami aired the other two. But we get our normal marathon instead. I can only hope that they do something fun during the commercial breaks. Or learn to pronounce Fooly Cooly correctly. If they manage to do that then I'll be more than satisfied. Speaking of which, a FLCL marathon. I should at least be happy that it isn't DBZ Kai, but they can't be expecting this to do ratings gold, especially since it's both seasons back to back. Of course, they wouldn't air a marathon on Memorial Day if they expected their ratings to be good, so there's that. Again, excuse the possible incoherence in my post.
PokeNirvash
I can trust TOM to pronounce FLCL properly, but SARA... man, what were they thinking?

FLCL only has one season so far, and it's just IT back-to-back. Still, the 3-hour 15-minute runtime for the block indicates that we will have all the usual features and foibles that Toonami marathons often contain, including reruns of "behind the scenes" segments and almost definitely some new stuff as well. If you're looking for something special on Toonami's 6th anniversary on Adult Swim, you've got it, though you probably haven't thought about it: this is the first time since September 2012 that Toonami will repeat in the same night. And when Toonami first came to Adult Swim, exactly 6 years prior, it began at 12 AM and repeated at 3 AM. But I wonder if it indicates something bigger going forward? It may take a while, but I believe this might be a trial run for an 8-show Toonami that starts at 10 PM and repeats at 2 AM, a trial run that will most likely be repeated when FLCL 2 and/or FLCL 3 end later on. If they're successful, then perhaps in 2019 or beyond whenever Space Dandy Season 2 and the replay of Bebop end, Toonami will drop the reruns and air 8 premieres from 10-2, and rerun those from 2-6. After all, Naruto Shippuden's tame enough for 1:30/5:30.

They probably will do that. From this point, it's pretty easy to predict what marathons will happen. FLCLs Progressive and Alternative will probably get their own weekends, and those will probably be Labor Day and Halloween respectively. Thanksgiving's marathon could be pretty much anything, but I'm thinking they slip another run of Samurai Jack S5 in there, or maybe My Hero Academia gets one. December could have a run of both new FLCL seasons back-to-back to go along with the requisite Dragon Ball Super marathon. After all, even if this FLCL marathon is the longest, the one they did for Attack on Titan S1 still had more unique content.

The only reason they were doing that in the beginning, to my knowledge, was due to a lack of shows they could air. Even when they got enough shows to justify a six hour block, the last three hours were still hour long show blocks for a while. As much as DeMarco apparently likes a "smaller" Toonami, if they have the hours they'll try and find the shows to program it before resorting to breaking the block up again.
