Fucking A it drives me insane. How'd she get a phone job? She had the highest exam scores and comes in early like me too so I have to listen to her my entire shift.

"Yessum missa we have dat right on the way to ya sir just give it 7 business days sir!"

Goddamn it

Since I've never been formally trained with regards to customer service, I can't say whether this is a good or bad habit; but if someone calls in with a bit more drawl than I naturally affect, I will lay it on a little thicker if I'm confident I can do it convincingly. The personal reasoning being that I think it makes them feel more comfortable to talk to someone who sounds similar to themselves.

It does help that she doesn't sound as if shes not confident and she handles difficult customers well...but damn. And we are in the deep south..the girl closest to me is from the same place I grew up..charleston..and she has a geechee/gullah accent but manages to sound way more professional.

I'm generally terrible at phone stuff, especially calls involving monetary exchange and customers with a million questions.

Being forced to do it has... resulted in personal tactics, but like I said I've never been coached so usually am terrible at projecting confidence.

I do find that when I deliver prompts with authority people will generally go along with the flow more willingly.

The worst calls are ones that start off strong but you get curveballed in the middle or end.

I had a telemarketer call me a racist and a few other choice words when I told him I couldn't understand his super thick accent.

I'm an information sponge. If I dont know the answer, I know where to find it. If I say something wrong, I apologize and give the correct answer.

Our processors are idiots and make A LOT of mistakes and I have trouble saving face. And I mean horrible horrible bad mistakes...like sending bills with incorrect amounts or not drafting payments...just shit I cant explain. But my trick to getting through calls like that is following up. The nastiest caller loves hearing you'll take ownership and call them back later so they dont have to rehash everything all over again with a new agent.

Still better than taking like your lips are glued shut.  Or how about the people who spit when they talk?  Then, you have people who end every sentence with a question mark like they're asking instead saying.  Don't forget people who punctuate every sentence with, "you know?"
