Vixen_catgirl
After weeks of forcing myself to go to the gym and basically dying night after night. I achieved it. I got the runners high. About a mile in i could hardly breath (i smoke way too many blunts) And i kept pushing and it was like this sudden tingly feeling that started at the top of the skull and spread downward At first i started to get scared i thought i was finally passing out from lack of oxygen but then i felt like my lung capacity expand and a feeling of euphoria. This carried me almost another mile before i did my cool down. However i rarely manage this, and i was wondering if any one here had any advice for how to keep motivated or what to think about to keep yourself distracted during a work out so you arent thinking about how much it sucks/hurts?
Distortedreasoning
my whole mentality around working out has changed. i agree that it sucks and nothing you can do will change that but not exercising will suck even more in time. im at the age where if i dont do anything then i will pay for it with my health. and with that in mind it just turns into a chore that needs to be done at least 5 days a week. even if i am sore i will attend and do a light workout like running on the elliptical. jackiemarie90
I started off on 20 minute intervals, then worked my way up to do causal jogging for an hour everyday. I don't do it these days, but used to a lot a few years ago. I'd say don't focus on your distance too much, focus on how long you can jog at a comfortable pace. I purposely hide the treadmill info about miles/calories burned etc and just think about the things bothering me in life. Kinda let my mind do more running while my body was. I was later able to do 13.1 half marathons after my training. Once you're in shape, I always felt the first 10 minutes were the hardest to get through, the it can be comfortable afterwards.
PhilosipherStoned
Treadmills don't do it for me. I'd have to crank that shit up to like 8.5 and then everybodies staring at me because it's loud as shit.

I've ran a lot in my life due to sports and can honestly say I've never experienced this phenomenon myself. Everyone always talked about that and second winds but my personal experience with running for long distances is feeling really hot and being 100% convinced some angry person is shanking me in the side repeatedly. I get what you mean. I occasionally find myself focusing on varicose veins while running (I have a bizarre phobia linked to blood vessels and veins) To motivate myself as running prevents them by strengthening the blood vessels in the legs. Sometimes after work and school though, i just dont have the time of the energy.

I think i focus in distance because i look at it like "no matter how long this takes or how hard it is today , i have to run this damn far." And i like watching the decimals go up i guess lol. They have TV on in the gym, but i dont care for sports, or whatever titillating murder drama is current the big thing. I really ought to focus on the things that bother me like you did. I have so very much to think about

I see that you go up to 7.0, and I would be a jogger at 5.3 - 5.4 for an hour at a time. But could do it for 2-3 hrs during those half marathons. lol I think it also depends on the persons health type and needs, I know some people are really great at sprinting. While I'm more of an endurance long distance runner. But oddly yes, I think it is great advice to think about the things that bother or stress us out during workouts. We get focused into that while not focusing on the results from exercising, and it can kind of help us work through those feelings at the same time. Running can be very therapeutic. Plus you feel stronger after a run, mentally at least.

I like sticking to working out and actually seeing results and all that but I'd much rather hit a bike, or swim, or even aggressively walk on a treadmill on an incline than run.
