That_One_Guy
I have problems booting up my NES often times. Like it takes me several tries just to get a game to start. And sometimes when it starts I get either a pink or yellow screen. Do I need to clean my system out? Also if anyone here has any NES games they don't want I'll take em lol. I love the NES. It might seriously be my favorite console
Doom Metal Alchemist
The NES was my first console, not my favorite though. Although my very favorite video game of all time was on the NES: The original Legend of Zelda. And yeah, you probably need to clean out your system. Google how to do that properly. I just finished link to the past. I really want to play Zelda 2 even though I hear it's pretty difficult.

Only thing that sucks is games like that are super expensive. I saw an I'm box copy of Mega Man being sold for $100. Retro games are making a comeback and unfortunately people know it
Doom Metal Alchemist
If the reason you want the games is to play rather than build up a collection, then definitely go for the carts by themselves.
That_One_Guy
It's a combination for me. I want to collect and beat as many as I can. Like dude I bought Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde for the NES just to have it but I also plan on beating it even though it's awful.
Ric
Yes, clean the system. Also clean your games. Might take a while but games are a bitch to start if the system and/or game is dirty. The top loaders are a lot more reliable at reading carts. But if you want A/V component you have to get it modded. Since it sounds like you're looking for games, here are some that are not expensive(<$20): Batman Blaster Master Commando Dragon Warrior Faxanadu Freedom Force (lightgun game, so needs Zapper and be played on a CRT) Gradius Gun.Smole Kung Fu Life Force Metal Gear Little Nemo: The Dream Master Ninja Gaiden 1-2 R.C. Pro-Am Rygar Silver Surfer Snake's Revenge StarTropics Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TMNT 2: The Arcade Game The Battle of Olympus Willow Yoshi's Cookie Edited December 24, 2017 by Ric

I've never actually seen a top loader NES. I've only heard about it.

I've never actually seen a top loader NES. I've only heard about it. I have never seen a front loader that loads games without fail first time every time. Another thing to consider would be getting an everdrive/flash cart. You can load roms on those and they play just as if you playing the actual carts since it uses the actual hardware and not emulation. They are a little expensive but you could use that and keep on your games on the shelf instead of switching carts constantly. Also of course it's the only way you'd likely ever play expensive as hell games like Little Samson and such on original hardware. I have yet to get one myself but everything I've seen/heard/read about it seems worth it and I might get one next year.
That_One_Guy
I'm for sure gonna look into getting top loader then. I also would love to have the famicom CD things that they only released in Japan. But I'm sure those are crazy expensive lol. Cartridge technology is just too damn faulty. What doesn't make sense is my snes works way better than my N64
molarbear
The Big 20 game list was just revealed for this year. For those of you that don't know the Big 20 is a race of 20 NES games and a bunch of people race to speed run them and see who get's first. This is all in one day, start to go you time it. To my knowledge it's an open tournament, you can also catch said tournament on the retro page on twitch.
PhilosipherStoned
You could just get you hands on one of the new released "NES Classics" and hack it to be able to hold all the games you need. I may end up trying it with this SNES Mini, but I'm happy with the games list on it right now. I still need to finish earthbound and metroid 2. molarbear
Just a heads up The Big 20 is coming up in a couple weeks. For those of you that don't know what that is BestofNes releases a list consisting of 20 NES games usually a month or so prior to the event and then on the day of the tournament a bunch of speed runners attempt to beat the all 20 games first. Anyone can enter and it's all broadcast on twitch. http://thebestofnes.com/big20/ That link has a list of the games, all the people who have signed up to run it so far, and if you happen to be interested in participating it tells you how to sign up.
