Does it? I don't recall. I'll have to look now

In the movie finale

If I remember correctly it's at the end.

When Aramaki informs her that he got the full clearance, budget, etc for her and the team that Motoko requested. I think that's when they officially become Section 9.

What's with the apple?

That submarine officer looks like Duke. xD

LOL Ishikawa just clocks him.

That sexist dinosaur Takakura pegged Kayabuki wrong, and got put in his place.

Ameri-Soviet Union?  Wut?  Lol EU is canon apparently.  Didn't think it existed when this was written.  Surprised they are still around in this universe in any case.

That was the Tachikomas singing?  They left it in Japanese.  What were they saying I wonder?  RIP Tachikomas.

What kind of nonsensical penal code is it where you can't be charged if you turn yourself in?

Goda smug and full of himself right up to the end.  Then Major just blows him away!  God that was satisfying! :D

Oh no they got Kuze!  Did that guy break into the vehicle he was being held in?  One last crane...

Thought for sure Proto died.  Guess not.

Puchikomas?  Looks like the AI on them was kept pretty basic. :(

What was Bato going to say?

Great ending but still potential for more I think.

GiTS the movie is now free on Showtime and I am so pissed I decided not to go to the theater. The VFX are unreal.

Yup, was worth it on the big screen, despite some flaws. I went to see it in IMAX.

The visuals definitely should have won some awards.

Seriously dude you did it right. So regret not going. I'm watching it again now actually and I'm blown away.

I will say the plot was definitely flawed and generic as hell.

They probably won't but it'd be cool if one of the days they did a repeat marathon they'd re-run GITS SAC: Solid State Society, the sequel to 2nd Gig.

I'm still really surprised they haven't picked up Ghost in the Shell Arise.

Why a marathon before?  And I didn't know they ever showed it before.

I still haven't seen that movie.  I need to check that out.  Makes sense to do so soon as well with Second Gig fresh in my mind.

Yeah agreed.

Yeah. The plot and case was way too simple and generic and also it was a little too focused on the Major and needed more of the team. Still surprised by the lack of Togusa scenes since I recognized his actor.

Scarlet was a pretty good Major.

And Batou was surprisingly freaking perfect.

Oh that was just because they don't really do movies anymore and it's old now and they'd probably consider it a re-run so I thought that kind of thing that might be the best shot lol.

Had to look it up since I didn't remember the details but kind of remembered it getting on TV; So it was shown during the Adult Swim anime years.

Yeah leaving the entire team out of the plot was lame as hell. I felt very little character development and even the major's stuff was hollow as hell.

And agree on Batou. Great fit.

Yeah, I just don't get it, they're huge GITS fans and the show still seems to do well, you'd think they would have jumped on airing the new Arise.
Arise even got a re-edit into TV length eps like Gundam Unicorn. Even though the OVA order's probably smoother just like it was with Gundam Unicorn, it should still be a good watch. They'd have a good amount of content to air too since they'd have both the 10 eps as well as a new Arise series finale movie.

Plus the Major and Batou scenes together and action scenes together felt really good IMO, so it feels like they could have done a good job with the rest of the team if the plot was different rather than an origin story so that it could have involved the whole group more. I guess maybe they were hoping for a sequel for that or something?

Yeah, was shocked how good a fit he was.

Oh well it probably has a very outside shot then.  They love GitS but movies are a rarity these days except in special circumstaces.

Wow really?  Pretty sure I didn't see it, but I guess I would know for sure if I go and watch it.  Supposedly they played the Bebop movie once before as well, but I don't recall seeing that either.

Yeah, that plus it being old made me think it was unlikely so I was just like "maybe after a re-run marathon!" lol

Yeah, I always remember that the Bebop movie aired but I don't fully recall experiencing watching it on TV anymore either.

I'll definitely try to watch it soon and try not to get side-tracked.  Easier to commit to watch one movie than a series anyways.

I wonder if the show is hard to get, in a licensing hell of sorts.  Or just expensive.  I mean when it was OVA length it made sense to avoid it.

I didn't watch the GitS live action on principle, due to the whitewashing.  Doesn't sound like I missed much anyway.

Certainly has flaws, but I think there's still some cool parts to see for GITS fans.

Haha yeah. It's all in one sitting for a movie :D

Hmm, you might be right maybe it's pricey due to being GITS. Yeah, OVA length would have made it tough, they were each about 50-60 mins each, and only 4 of them (5 with addition of the later OVA release of eps 9-10 of the TV version to better connect to the latest anime movie) so probably too short to mess with the schedule like that. But with the TV edit it seemed more possible.

Solid State Society never aired on Adult Swim but it really should. Would have been perfect for one of the month of movies.

Hmm really? Weird, I could have sworn I saw it on TV the second time I watched it, but to be fair I have seen it a bunch of times over the years.

not sure when it was dubbed but after september 2006 the only movies on ASA were Fire on the Mystic Island, G.I. Joe: Resolute, Memories of Nobody, and The DiamondDust Rebellion.

if not for the different voice actors i'd also suggest airing the laughing man/individual eleven compilation films but they made a few weird changes in the latter one. like kubota telling aramaki kuze's name and gouda not asking batou if he's gonna stop him after they have that conversation.

Thanks, I just looked it up and see why I made that mistake, it looks like it did air on TV but actually aired on that short lived Sci-Fi/SyFy channel anime block so that's why I remember seeing it once on TV (the block that premiered Gundam 00 and Gurren Lagann as well).

Oh that's really weird.

That'd be kind of cool as a night, haven't gone back to those movie versions in a while probably due to the change in cast, especially since it's been on Toonami each week anyway.

and i believe it's implied in the laughing man one that yamaguchi's phone call to togusa takes place the same night as the events in the beginning of episode 1. i don't remember any other weird things like that though.

If anything I walked away feeling like the people involved really didn't understand the underlying material and spirit of the series. Instead of a lame attempt at an origin story they could have created a case for the team to crack that is relevant and relatable to the audience. Yes. GiTS is ultimately a very existential show, but it's more of the backdrop for stories about advancing technology and how human beings are interacting with and living along side it. This is what we get with Hollywood today unfortunately and I'm more and more inclined to see my favorites left alone. I don't think they're heart is in the right place and the box office revenue is always the main driver.

Wait what they did what with the episodes?  And there was a movie?  I originally thought Arise was movies.  But they were OVAs that got converted to 30 minute episodes?  And there was a movie?
