If it's in HD and you have an HDTV, it better fit your whole screen or else you have a lawsuit because you bought your TV with an implied warranty of merchantibility. It has everything to do with aspect ratio, and in 2017 there's no excuse for a TV show not being able to fit the whole screen. If that were logical, society would revert back from using airplanes to using trains as the primary method of travel. Do you see my point now or does it still elude you? Quote

The only other way would be to animate new content for the sides, and I don't even know how you'd go about that. Even if you could figure it out, it would be prohibitively expensive!! Quote
