That sounds like a health and safety hazard. It could rot through the floor, or cause mold.- 93 replies

That was the Japanese definition. In Japanese it's just the word that means animation. But there needs to be some distinction made, for our purposes. And calling Japanese cartoons, Japanimation, Japanime, sounds weird and takes too long. I've also had fans get offended when I called anime cartoons, lol.

fire force Fire Force Episode 3: Discussion
ben0119 replied to AnimationFan14's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Yeah I haven't seen it in a while, and the image came from DeviantArt. Which means if it is a screen shot, that person just straight up stoled it lol. I guess I remember wrong. I thought when her eyes gained pupils, they became glossy as well. MANDELA EFFECT! When they are in the "normal" state they are creepy to an extent to me. Like I said, they look like doll eyes. Just about every other anime character would have reflection in their eyes. In fact, whenever the artists want to show that a character is unconsious, in a trance-like state, stunned by some shocking thing happened, etc, they will show their eyes looking flat and dull, with no reflection. But that's how Maka's eyes are all the time! So yeah, it's really weird. And there was never really any reason given for it, that I can tell. Except maybe for it to be more noticeable when her eyes and face change for certain moments. Unless maybe it is revealed in the manga she is some sort of artificial creating, I dunno, lol. Other Soul Eater characters have weird eyes, but again, they don't look lifeless, lol. I was able to get past it since I like Maka, but it still bugs me lol. I thought it was the time she tries to get Crona to be friends? I thought that happened more than once, but maybe it didn't. Well that is weird that he changed the art style, then changed it back. Can't remember if it was Soul Eater NOT or something else that had the really cutesy art style? And I thought it was more lika spin-off with a new cast, but this was the same cast and everything, but just a prequel? It's really annoying they made that but didn't do a "Brotherhood" of Soul Eater. Also don't get why companies make up endings to shows instead of just pick a stopping point and then they could go back to it later. Though, funny thing is, Blue Exorcist made a continuation, but didn't remake the whole series, so I guess you're just expected to know where the series diverted and continue it in your mind from there. This is why the filler ending thing should not be a thing! At least it seems to be a lot less common these days. Yup haha. Man that sucks if it's true she was never really shown. Odd indeed. Yeah could be adult Maka. Not sure how old they are trying to show her there. The fact it's a different art style can throw off apparent age, too. Tough to say. Nice art, in any case! Haha that is one that came up, and is a funny one. Angry Maka lol. Oh yeah, I remember that. Oh I was gonna say lmao. I think there is a quote about her telling someone not to look down on her, though, but I'm not sure. Most of these other ones are pretty heavy art shifts, and things even other characters would do, so I don't know if I would count them the same, but Maka's eyes change regardless during them, of course. I was thinking more of the times her eyes change specifically, which were up above. But yeah, thanks for that catalogue, heh. I ought to re-watch Soul Eater one of these days, and read the manga. Ah okay. -
I'll have to look into this more when I get the chance, later. But, Fairy Tail is already pretty much a JRPG in anime form. Rave Master was too, as far as that goes. If they put good effort into it, it could be awesome!

boruto Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 49 Discussion
ben0119 replied to DangerMouse's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
LOL what possessed you to make the Boruto thread? Well, somebody had to do it, I guess. At least maybe we will finally see some little used characters get some screen time. That preview sure sounds fillery though. -
dr.stone Dr. Stone Episode 5 Discussion!!!
ben0119 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
I thought this show was going to be about survival and rebuilding civilization. But they decided to introduce a villain. Oh well. We'll just have to see how this goes. I really hope nothing happens to Yuzuriha. -
ONEPUNCH MAN SEASON 2 OCTOBER 12TH! (DEMON SLAYER TOO!)
ben0119 replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
His dumbfuck lawyer came up with that one. Gotta love that nonsensical logic. At least much of Vic's case has been dismissed, with the rest likely to follow. And with anti-SLAPP, Vic will be on the hook for the defendants' legal bills, which means that GoFundMe money that his cult of fans and the anti-SJW/red piller bandwagon jumping jackasses donated to will be going to Jamie, Monica, and Funimation, along with whatever else money Vic has left. Hope it was worth it, Vic! -

LOL yup I definitely need to watch this show! Oh okay, I didn't know that. Well that could explain a lot lol. And I did like both of those shows. Yeah it would have been great for that! -

I wouldn't consider it that. And if anything, viewers would find Fairy Tail more accessible than One Piece. But I said to air it years ago, not now. I am not the one who made that Reddit post. -
fire force Fire Force Episode 9 Discussion
ben0119 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Lol, you're posting art for a show you don't even like that much? Tamaki looks great there, though! Here's another cute one - But, since you posted that, may as well up the ante. The logical progression of the Lucky Lecher Lure I am finally finding more Maki art! Either that much more was drawn in a week, or the search engines are getting better at finding it. Could not resist posting this set I just found. It's too bad too. If the artist had made Maki bald down there I could maybe have posted the first pic without spoilers! -
And those people are right. That technical definition is wrong. Gotta say I am losing faith in Merriam-Webster if that is their definition of anime. The people working there probably aren't too knowledgeable on the subject. You wouldn't define anime by the animation style because it varies so much in quality and style. But even as much as the art style also varies, you can at least look at a show's art style and tell it is anime, most of the time. I suppose you could say that, but anything inspired by anime would still just be that and not anime itself, as it wouldn't be created in Japan. If the type of storytelling and art was so readily available elsewhere, there wouldn't be such a demand for anime in the west. But especially now, with non-comedic Western animation all but dead, it makes anime even more in demand. So to say that just because a show made somewhere else has similar art and other elements to anime, makes it anime, is ridiculous. It could make it appealing to some anime fans and if it's good, maybe a rare breed and diamond in the rough, if you have no interest for the vast majority of Western animation being produced at the moment. But that doesn't make it anime. And that's not to diminish it, it's just the facts.

Well they are doubling up on Dr. Stone the following week, so that will be made up for, but Fire Force is still Fire Fucked. Not sure how far behind Black Clover is with Funi's simuldub or the sub, if they are trying for a similar freshness thing there. There shouldn't be any marathons outside of December, as it's already been proven it doesn't change anything with Thanksgiving, and every other holiday is more minor than that.
-
But the last episode isn't airing the same night, so doesn't make much sense. It's building up hype during ungodly hours and having to wait a week to watch the finale. What would make more sense is to do the marathon leading up the final episode, with the final episode airing at its usual time, and then you flow into the regular block. But Adult Swim wouldn't let Toonami take over all that time and people aren't accustomed to watching Toonami that early. So since this marathon is a nonsensical paradox that can't make sense no matter what they should just not air it at all!

It says that for action. Always, often, close enough. I don't know if I would even say often though. There's lots of slice of life series with no action, or sci-fi or or fantasy elements. I wouldn't use that as part of a definition for anime. Well, I don't know why you would be talking about animation style. People don't identify anime by the animation style as much as they do the art style. Unless you want to talk about the animation cheats that we typically don't see elsewhere. People often get "animation style" and "art style" confused. Pretty sure disseminated means it's disseminated by Japan, and not elsewhere. You're also ignoring this part. - For simplicity, many Westerners strictly view anime as a Japanese animation product.

I found the actual original music video for the ED! Damn, those girls are cute! I could not find the English ED, except for Toonami's edit, though. Not sure what the deal is with that.- 93 replies

The definition you linked is wrong. For one thing, anime isn't always action genre or sci-fi or fantasy. Wikipedia is more accurate here - Anime (US: /ˈænəˌmeɪ/, UK: /ˈænɪˌmeɪ/)[1] (Japanese: アニメ Hepburn: anime, [aɲime] (About this soundlisten), plural: anime)[a] is hand-drawn and computer animation originating from or associated with Japan. The word anime is the Japanese term for animation, which means all forms of animated media.[2] Outside Japan, anime refers specifically to animation from Japan or as a Japanese-disseminated animation style often characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastical themes.[3][4] The culturally abstract approach to the word's meaning may open up the possibility of anime produced in countries other than Japan.[5][6][7] For simplicity, many Westerners strictly view anime as a Japanese animation product.[4]
