They probably don't happen to fluclights in the underworld so yeah maybe this is the first time they've come across a comatose individual.

Sword Art Online Alicization heading to Toonami January 18
Sketch replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
As per usual they don't feel any need to confirm if a show will continue into another season if it is doing so. Especially when it's not going on a break or even moving time slots. I suppose they don't have to but it is annoying that they don't give us even a clue if they will continue the series or not. -

Then he's both right and possibly wrong. Right in that they have to be cut for the Toonami package now and possibly wrong that they'd be kept without the Toonami package. Unless AS has actually become more lax on the amount of ad-space they want during shows, even without the Toonami package shows would probably have shortened OPs. More likely Toonami hours are an exception so that they can have packaging without cutting 24-25 minutes shows to 20-21 minutes just to have the Toonami package. DeMarco has described it as sort of a bank of time and a certain amount has to be used for ad-space but it can be balanced across those 5.5 hours rather than strictly adhering to a certain amount of ad-space every half hour or hour. -
I watched the first two episodes and I found it decent if not a little too obnoxious at points. If you think highly of Lion-O or Mumm-ra then these versions will be a tough pill. Lion-O is a well-meaning overly enthusiastic buffoon and Mumm-ra is played off as quite a joke despite also being shown as an intimidating threat to be reckoned with. Tygra is the den mother and the butt of most of the abuse, Panthro was "the cool one", Snarf seems to be a random plot device and there's not much else to be said about Cheetara and the twins so far. It abridges the "apslotion" of Thunderra, the escape of the ThunderCats and the pursuit of the mutants. It both drenches itself in the 80s source material while also showing it not amount of reverence. The tone was decidedly goofy even when discussing serious things. The Berbils voiced by Dana (Master Shake) Snyder were my favorite part, they were pretty funny. Patrick (Dio, Franky) Seitz' Mumm-ra was entertaining to me at least. The animation is well done for the zany style that they were going for. It reminded me a lot of the Henry and June segments from KaBlaam as well as O.K. K.O. but the animation is arguably more fluid than those.

Commato or Kiricoma? I can’t decide. -

He meant in future work, not adaptations of his already completed novels. -

Thankfully no. There's a whole lot of violence in this arc, tons of blood and some characters lose limbs but really no attempted rape. -

Keep track of how late they are making announcements? So SAO is back already. I gotta say I enjoyed this upcoming arc and look forward to the dub. Looks like they’re maintaining 9 premieres, so Toonami isn’t “killed” for certain individuals here. -
schedule What will Toonami be airing on 2/8/20 at 12:30 AM???

I think the answer to that is they don’t really sweat it. -

It can still happen but it’s gonna take a little thing called money. -

ID: INVADED isn't Aniplex, it's Kadokawa. But both it and Plunderer stand a good chance of being FUNimation simuldubs on Toonami early this year. Either would be a much greater risk than Fire Force and Dr. Stone were so that would Dimension W territory and it would be an interesting move. I'm rather hoping for Mob and they'd probably run the Reigan OVA before starting season 2 which may be one reason they are putting off the announcement with the logic that one is a special and could just have 1 weeks notice if need be while it builds in 2 weeks notice for season 2 coming. I fully expect they will roll right into season two of Food Wars without a delay because it's certainly not lagging behind the other shows and probably isn't cost prohibitive. They likely already secured the first two seasons at the same time. It sure is frustrating that they almost always don't announce additions to the line-up until they are two weeks away from airing but I fully expect an announcement this week. -
New Schedule for 1/4/20- Promised Neverland Reruns

Ya know if it was bartering with Aniplex, I wish they had grabbed Cells at Work. It's a great show with lots of action despite being very comedic and quirky and well... educational. But hey Dr. Stone is giving us science class just about every episode so why not? Too bad though, Netflix bought it instead and it just was added. Alternatively it's well dang past time they aired Madoka Magica. It would be a zero risk move compared to Pop Team Epic or even Food Wars. There's a new series airing right now and they could have gotten that as soon as it was dubbed. Since Aniplex doesn't simuldub much if ever, that timing could have worked out well. If they don't get Mob to replaced OPM then maybe they could get Madoka and I'll admit that's a riskier move if they leave it toward the front but it could pan out. IMO no need to rush out and get something new when they could do this. 11:00 PM - My Hero Academia 11:30 PM - Dr. Stone 12:00 AM - Demon Slayer 12:30 AM - Fire Force 01:00 AM - Food Wars 01:30 AM - Black Clover 02:00 AM - JJBA Golden Wind 02:30 AM - Madoka Magica 03:00 AM - Shippuden 03:30 AM - Promised Neverland 04:00 AM - Attack on Titan 04:30 AM - One-Punch Man Season 2 And then... 11:00 PM - My Hero Academia 11:30 PM - Mob Psycho 100 Season 2 12:00 AM - Demon Slayer 12:30 AM - SAO: Alicization War of the Underworld 01:00 AM - Magica Record 01:30 AM - Food Wars 02:00 AM - JJBA Golden Wind 02:30 AM - Black Clover 03:00 AM - Shippuden 03:30 AM - Dr. Stone Reruns 04:00 AM - Attack on Titan 04:30 AM - One-Punch Man Season 2 Or something like that -

Ya know I was regaling how ASA aired openings back in the day with my buddy Duelist and actually it was very inconsistent. They kept the full openings to very few shows overall, especially early on. This is what we could remember. Cowboy Bebop - Full OP obviously Yu Yu Hakusho - Full OP sometimes, custom ASA opening other times Pilot Candidate - Full OP Gundam 0083 - No OP Outlaw Star - Full OP restored from the Toonami tapes Tenchi Muyo - Full OP restored from the Toonami tapes Mobile Suit Gundam - No OP, as I recall the DVD release opted to use the Toonami intro so either that aired on ASA, they made something else or there was no intro aside from an ASA bump InuYasha - Full OPs for a while at least, I feel like it was inconsistent but I honestly don't remember and InuYasha was airing more often than any other show so they probably ditched the full OPs at some point Lupin the 3rd Part 2 - Full OP rarely Trigun - No OP I think Reign the Conqueror - Full OP I think Blue Gender - No OP FLCL - Full ED, it has no OP to begin with Witch Hunter Robin - No OP Kikaider - No OP The Big O - At least two OPs aired but eventually they stopped airing the OPs and just did a title card Case Closed - Shortened OP Fullmetal Alchemist - Ready Steady Go and one other OP aired in full as I recall Ghost in the Shell: SAC - Full OPs Samurai Champloo - Full OP Paranoia Agent - Full OP Neon Genesis Evangelion - Full OP s.Cry.ed - Full OP I think? I'm pretty sure it had the full OP on Adult Swim video on demand at least Eureka 7 - Shortened OPs Bleach - Full OPs (as I recall Bleach cut extra skit segments which allowed it to keep a shorter run time) Trinity Blood - Shortened OP Shin Chan - Very shortened OP, if you can even consider it that Death Note - Full OPs I think Code Geass - Shortened OPs Moribito - Shortened OP Blood+ - Shortened OPs maybe? Kekaishi - Shortened OPs FMA Brotherhood - Shortened OPs (around 50 seconds) Durarara - Shortened OP (around 50 seconds) So the long of the short is, ASA was not the least bit consistent with how they presented shows. There was a time when they did Toonami-style custom intros but phased those out for more generalized bumps. Shows that were allowed to keep full OPs and just have shortened EDs usually had shorter run times to begin with or cut out other extras bits that were neither part of the episode nor part of the OP or ED. So thinking ASA kept openings intact is a false memory. Even if there was no Toonami packaging there's no guarantee the shows airing would have short enough run times to allow them to air with full OPs every week. The compromise of getting the full cuts of OPs one time is pretty dang good and we should be grateful for it. -
New Schedule for 1/4/20- Promised Neverland Reruns
Sketch replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Perhaps they are rerunning The Promise Neverland because they will lose the broadcast rights to season 1 by April of 2020. Either that or Aniplex is throwing them a bone (after Toonami lost the rights) because SAO Alicization Part 2 won't be ready to air as soon as they thought, or something along those lines. -

Sketch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
It's not like 1:30 of the song is the full song either. It's just a slightly longer TV edit, albeit one done with much more care toward matching the visuals of the opening sequence. They simply cannot air the full length openings for every show every week so they compromise and run the new OPs once in full and otherwise only the first show of the night and some rare contractual exceptions get to keep their full openings. Why are we still talking about this at the end of 20 freak'n 19? It's been many years since Toonami came back in May of 2012. Freak'n Netflix and some other streaming services try to make people skip OPs and EDs entirely. At least Toonami keeps what they can. -

Having just 8 premieres would kill Toonami for you? It’s not like we used to only have 6 or even less. You guys might be thinking two reruns early in the year is disturbingly similar to 2018 when we had to wait till May for the first new show of the year but at that point we only had 7 premieres and two slots were Dragon Ball and FLCL1 reruns were in the middle. I’m sure there will be two new shows replacing Fire Force and Dr. Stone. We won’t have to wait half a year for the next premiere.
