it's different with everyone i guess. i envy people who can drink casually. i've just never had a lot of control when it comes to booze. other substances i've tried haven't been a problem, and i don't have any other compulsive tendencies. maybe it's just chemical with me.

and i might. a month is just a reachable target so i don't psyche myself out.

yeah, i have the same dichotomy going on. i know it's bad for me and moreover that i'll feel better once i've quit for awhile. meanwhile, though, my body will continue to crave it. if i can get it weened off, i'll be fine. at least until i slip up again and then i'll have the hangover from hell.

i haven't been able to sleep without a half a fifth of scotch in my system for like three weeks. thinkin' it's time to slow down...

Honestly, I started in history. I found I was more able to broach philosophical topics within the context of English, but I could also use practical skills like writing as a hook. Philosophy might have been the best fit for me personally, but the type of person who would sign up for a philosophy class wouldn’t really need what I was selling. Everyone has to take English.

i like trying to present information to people that they hadn't thought of in ways that force them to question basic assumptions. i think this is why i went into teaching, and specifically english. i realized pretty early on that the rules that govern society are mostly arbitrary. i may not be able to fix what's wrong with society, but at least i can wake people up to the idea that things don't have to be the way they are. also tacos.

yeah. sleeping is going to be tough for a few nights. i usually go with a valerian root tea. something stronger might be in order this time, though.
