His name was Bruce Herrod and he was discovered hanging from the Hillary Step in 1997. The Step is at 28,839 ft. which is well above the South Col campsite, the last safe place you can make a camp. He was part of the disastrous climbing season of 1996 and was one of the people who still decided on making the summit in the midst of a storm. The Hillary Step collapsed during the earthquake in 2015, possibly taking him with it.
