I now realize I have either seen/read most of the Toonami series. My power levels were higher than I remembered. Damn, now I feel like a weeb.

I think the animation style would make Ping Pong a risky choice just as much (if not more so) than the fact It's a sports anime.

My point was that it Isn't necessarily female leads that made these shows ratings winners, but that also had other factors that made them appealing to people. So correlation does not always equal causation. Just having female protags doesn't mean anything by itself, it should also be either 1) good, or 2) have elements to appeal to a casual audience. Ideally both, but we can't always have everything in life. Plz pick something good Demarco.

Ehhhh I don't think a flirty character makes it inherently sexist. It's an over-the-top lowbrow comedy episode with sexy situations for the whole audience to enjoy! 😉 (Even though Part 3 is so long, I could never forget this episode lol). This is still an interesting comment though, because JoJo was one of the early shounen series notable for attracting a significant female audience.

@OwlChemist81 Ok I've gotta say, you seem to be implying that just because a show has leading female characters that automatically makes it "female-oriented" and more likely to draw in female viewers, which is just plain wrong and a very...unfortunate implication. By that logic women should love ecchi harem series because they're full of female characters.

They skipped from partway through OG Naruto directly to Shippuden, if I recall. They also started One Piece from the Foxt arc instead of the beginning. So large jumps ahead for long-runners is not unprecedented.

Foley, my friend, this is one of those situations where you turn off your brain and just enjoy the comedy and fanservice.

So. I got busy with life, kind of lost interest in anime and engaged in other interests and life events for the last couple years. Recently, I started feeling nostalgic and getting more involved with community again. I haven't watched Toonami for some time, and shows have come/gone or are up to a high episode count now. This is rather daunting for me and I'm not sure where to start. I am already familiar with JoJo and Shippuden. I got partway through HxH and Kai when I was still following Toonami, but would need to catch up. So are any of the currently airing shows "must watch" material?

I love LoGH and it's one of my few 10/10 series, but...no. It would be a terrible fit for Toonami.

They can be fun sometimes. Maybe at a holiday, or just to do something different every omce in a while. How fun they are heavily depends on who you play with, though.

Damn, this season is loaded. I might have to start getting into seasonal anime again.
