The expectations I took going into this were effectively dashed, in the most positive of senses. Here I was thinking it was gonna be Momo's corpse in the syrup, but not only were she, Hideo, Yoshiken and his wife instead transformed into moss, but what was in the syrup was what appeared to be a kidney with an eye in it, some kind of teratoma at best or Lovecraftian larva at worst. (At least, that's how I interpreted it before I finally recognized it as looking like a dog's head.) While I still think promotions could have tried something a little less spoiler-y with the next episode preview, that misdirection was worth it, making this episode a good inclusion to the pair to start off my first birthday where I'm solo running it. (Celebrations with family were done over the past two days, in case you were wondering.) Personally, I think it's too easy a target for the show's lore. I was thinking they'd try and go for some sort of mix of Japanese and Bangladeshi mythology, so learning from discussion that it skewed in the direction of Lovecraft was a little disappointing. Still, it's fascinating for them to base it in Japan as opposed to the classical locations, and it's definitely several steps up from the last time anime tried their hand at the Cthulu mythos. I'd have posted something more horrendous, but this was the best I could find on short notice.

All the more reason to record everything onto rewritable DVDs like I did back then, or just watch the episodes on [as]'s website through your cable provider like I do now.

I am not looking particularly forward to this season.

Maybe they got the Made in Abyss movie and they're testing the waters to see how limited commercials work on the network because no self-respecting company wants to run ads during it...

Day drinking. Took the day off of work to go on a half-day trip across the state line with my parents in early celebration of my birthday. I had a 16 oz. hard cider, a six-drink flight of different wines, and two glasses from a bottle of wine we split. Not enough to get really drunk, but more than plenty to loosen me up and admit to such vices.

For October 29th? Yeah, no. Overall? If they haven't gotten season 2 yet, I still have hope, especially with Demarco himself expressing interest in airing the movie on the block (from what my four-drink brain recalls).

I'd say something, but I don't need to be put on any more watchlists.

That must be why the dudes named Hideo and Kojima were the first ones in Housing Complex C to die.

Toonami hardly ever airs anime movies anymore, especially when they're Shonen Jump tie-ins, so I'm not as bummed about this as I was ten years ago when [as] just refused to air the third and fourth Bleach movies. What concerns me is that they won't be able to get most, if not all, of the dub cast back. Though Netflix seems infinitely more likely to agree to #JustAMeeting than Crunchyroll.

If anyone knows how much Toonami is struggling for acquisitions right now, it's VIZ. I'd be surprised if they didn't throw [as] a bone on this one.

Am I the only one who noticed the Rayearth poster in Hideo's bedroom? Having recently finished the first season, I gotta say that's pretty cool for them to include that.
