Now you know how Tanaka feels.

Guess I'm lucky, the 12:30 showing I went to yesterday was barely half-full and even then it was considered one of the must-sees of the day. ASSORTED THOUGHTS Movie was fun. I'd see it again. Rated TV-PGLV for various uses of "bastard" and the requisite Saiyan-on-Saiyan fighting, plus two bloodless shots through the heart for good measure. I felt a little awkward during the scenes referencing the Tournament of Power having already happened. Good thing all it really spoiled was Frieza being free to do what Frieza does. "Call me Kakarot" felt less like Goku accepting his Saiyan heritage at long last and more a jab at it being all Broly could say in his last two movies. I got five movie trailers. Mirai looks good save for the random furshit, How to Train Your Dragon 3 spoiled the whole movie, Mega Time Squad seems like it'll be a fun time (at least for cultists), the second Hunter x Hunter movie is so non-canon it doesn't actually hurt, and forget everything else, all I wanna know is why the Lego Movie 2 takes place in an apocalyptic wasteland. I assume for no reason, or at least because Mad Max is apparently still hip. The butter flavoring on the theater popcorn was vegan. This pleased my emotional allergy to milk products.

On the topic of Selkie, I've noticed that Ray Hurd's been in a lot more Toonami shows than usual recently. On top of his recurring role as Space Lorax... ...he voiced a spotted seal man last week and Ginger Hercule over the past two. Almost makes up for us not getting to hear him as Kizaru. -

Oh right, I have one of these things to do... Tonight on Toonami, the 4th Universe's Destroyer God uses their newfound knowledge of Frieza's recruitment to plot his assassination, Boruto's battle with the Tennou Gozu/Nue continues in a setting completely detached from the Leaf Village, All Might decides to share the history of One for All with Deku, the 7th Division's resident pyrokinetic takes on Teru while Ritsu and his posse run into the others, Nanbu realizes how fucked Joe is after learning how intent to break him his next opponent is, Shigechi plots to steal Josuke and Okuyasu's lottery winnings while they have trouble trying to pick up said winnings, Yami gets a chance most unmasking fetishists dream of and learns what Dimestore Griffith's face looks like, the King's resistance to just dying already forces Netero to play his trump card, and Naruto learns that someone's been using his name for petty evil in bumfuck-nowhere. 11:00 - Dragonball Super #94 - The Evil Emperor Returns! Dragon Ball Super: Broly My first time watching anime in a movie theater, and it was quite the experience.
-
For a second there, I thought it was the writers exaggerating how badass the JSDF is that was your main turn-off.
-
It probably differs depending on where you live. Columbus has Saturday showings, so it's not completely out of the question for there to be a weekend screening.
-
I managed to get a ticket for a showing at my campus theater on Saturday for only $11, so hooray for me on that. Now the challenge is seeing if I can get past all the snow and negative-degree weather on my way there...

Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
PokeNirvash replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Dumbass DVR forgot to record Super this week, so I'll get on that later. In fact, I'm gonna get to a lot of things sooner than later this week. BORUTO - Finally, an episode with violence. No relation to the other Shigaraki, I assume. Be patient, Boruto, he'll get to the reveal eventually. As they say, it's always the one you least suspect. I like that even in a position of authority, Naruto still refers to Kakashi as Sensei. Probably has something to do with him being the previous Hokage. For all you know, that rumbling could've been an earthquake. The way Kakashi pronounces "Sumire" is kinda weird. That must've been some war. With matters like this at hand, there's no time for hot springs. I'm not surprised that this triggers Naruto. Good thing we saw Danzo die before this show premiered, otherwise this wouldn't be as meaningful. JUDO CHOP. Vocal summoning triggers were a mistake. I swear, Boruto says "y'know" meaninglessly way more than Naruto did with "Believe it". At least he had the sense to quit that shit half-way into the Chunin Exams. I don't know much about this Deadly Class show outside of it being about a school for assassins with apparently more infighting than West Genetics Academy, but I'm curious about that chick with the Mexican skull facepaint. Like, does she wear it 24/7, or only when she wants to kill? Are those two ninja with Sai the support ninja from the boat filler? Despite all its rage, it's just a summoned beast in a cage. And then tentacle-mouths. Why would anyone be surprised at someone choosing a third option? "No offense, Mitsuki, but this is starting to sound kinda gay." FULL NELSON. He didn't think this through all the way did he. Yes, it's too bad that Choji's getting some right now. Sakura's helping too, but who cares about her? Ninja suicide bombers, how oddly timely. SUDDENLY MITSUKI. "So who are you really working for?" Does the name Snake Blum ring a bell? Mitsuki could've seen it too, if he was there the first time it showed. My, how edgy. MANGEKYO BYAKUGAN. MOB PSYCHO 100 - I'd be more mad about him leaving the special mace behind as opposed to leaving Mob uncaptured. If these guys think they're seriously gonna kill Mob and succeed, they're gonna have another thing coming. I was gonna guess Reigen, but the Body Improvement Club is a fine guess too. So many Mob brand products. SOAP WATERBOARDING. I love this show's maze-shaped reaction faces. Eh, I'd call at least two or three others here fugly before that chick. Their boss is a midget in a gas mask, their face must be covered in scars. Ritsu tells it like it is. Jesus Christ that's a giant chin, puts even the Butt-Chin Goblin to shame. Welp, he's dead. Definitely, definitely dead. And also definitely rethinking my decision to put off watching that My Hero episode now. Dude, we're talking the flying car here! Never trust a villain voiced by Jake Eberle, I wrote one so I should know. Those extended middle fingers seem very fitting, for some reason. It's like his attacks are one extended "fuck you" to them. Great work, Mob. "This battle will only last one night." Yet for us, it'll feel like three to four weeks. Oh good he's alive, thank god for telepaths. They're talking about, uh... dragons. Ritsu really thought that little of them. PROTIP: never scream to amplify your powers during what's supposed to be a surreptitious escape attempt. Lucky for you guys, that was just the decoy plan. BURRRRRRN. Max Mittelman/Mela Lee shipping, I approve. Dimple's only dangerous in that he has a tendency to create and lead cults as dangerously obsessive as Happy Science and Scientology. These white-walled hallways have such a cool aesthetic. Now how long before the two parties cross paths... Random mook? Destroy without discrimination. Ohhhh, their logo's katakana. YOU'RE GONNA LOOOOOSE KOYAMA. Splitting up and searching for clues never works well. Heh, Mob didn't even need to go 100% to show that guy what was what. JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE: DIAMOND IS UNBREAKABLE - REPLY TO ANGEL 1: "I don't think Craigslist exists yet so you can't find the dude with the hand fetish." Actually, Craigslist was founded in '95 while this takes place in '99, but back then it was limited only to San Francisco, so finding him would be considerably difficult. Way to make the minutia of small town life sound terrifying as shit, Koichi. Meanwhile, Josuke's still wringing his hands over what little money he has left in his bank account. Well, at least Joseph was generous enough to pay it all back, so I'd pin the blame on Josuke for this specific shortage. Hey, who knows where you'll find 1000 yen? I don't think banks really care about health codes as much as restaurants do. This background music sounds Disney as fuck. UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ. This scene give the opening theme a whole new meaning. #firstworldproblems. So many CGI micro-STANDs. Yes, Bad/Worse Company does come to mind. IT'S RAINING YEN. (Hallelujah!) This ugly mofo sounds like how I imagine a young Peter Lorre would sound. Alternately, Gollum. GRINNNNNN. I'm gonna call this guy Little Shige, if only because Mob passed on that nickname for himself. What is it with JoJo and turtles? He must get his physical genetics from his old man. Good, now take care of the currency that's technically less than 1 yen next, no one would ever think of paying attention to those. "You sneaky dick." You're a good kid, Little Shige. SHIT COUNT: 4. "As long as it's not some shitty disease, I'll take whatever people are given!" Out of the mouths of below average intelligence. I have a feeling Josuke's plan is going to backfire somehow. It's get-rich-quick scheme time! Fuck yeah, coupons and vouchers! I like this idea of "cash back" better than what I assume it means here. And now it's raining tiny pieces of paper! Friendship is all about getting rich quick, one coin at a time. They're kinda like the three Eds, come to think of it. And here's Koichi on another one of his introspective walks around town. Oh Yukako, you stalker. His eyes are dark, that's no good. HOORAY FOR CASH BACK! Not all girls in short skirts with strap purses are hookers, Little Shige. Also they're technically brownbacks, but whatever. Little Shige's definitely the Eddy of their operation. Okuyasu and Josuke's parallels should be obvious, based on the former's dumbness and the latter's mental math. Hey, it could be worse, Okuyasu could have a pebble in his shoe. And now we're playing the (almost) expired lottery. 5 GORILLION DOLLARS. Their faces. And here, have some Engrish fireworks while we're at it. Knowing Tonio's, the most expensive thing will be off the menu. Next week: Little Shige's Revenge. MY HERO ACADEMIA - Wow, Endeavor really doesn't look pleased at stealing the credit. I like your priorities, Todoroki. I didn't even realize last week that Bakugo had jeans forced on him. Still can't get over that hair tho. That one schoolgirl makes Mina look normal. I can't believe I love Bakugo's anger issues now. But, y'know, in the way a spectator enjoys what happens to people more than the people themselves. Thanks for the fight choreography lesson, Gunhead. Eh, she's attractive, but she's no Mt. Lady or Midnight. What type of hostage situation winds up with only two hostages? Normally it's either one or several. And now here's the protag of this "filler". Yeah, finding out there's way more minutia in your dream job than you anticipated is indeed disappointing. SEAL MAN. Hey, who said bara men can't be moe every once in a while? See, Froppy gets it. Ah, the Coast Guard. I hear they're the ones who watch the Neighborhood Watch. Oh boy, random "nobody likes it but Demarco" music video time! Well, at least the song's nice, and that it explains why my Mob recording had so many ads before it. Buff sailors. Present Mic, like the Spanish Inquisition, shows up where you least expect him to (but really should). Heh, I like that his jacket says "SEAL". A possibly intentional double meaning? Not to be speciesist or anything, but I don't trust those two tentacle-haired fellows. IT'S A TRAP, and not the fun kind either! Oh no, it's the water that'll kill you. Those guys just murdered you. "Shouldn't we rescue the Captain and the others?" Did you not hear her say they were fine? Oh hey, there's a female one of those too. Famous last words if I've ever heard any. Need a villain in your show? Why not Zoidberg? Oh wow, that one comic was actually right about her fin-ears being detachable. WAY TO GO FROPPY. Welp, at least an effort was made. Attacking him with his own men, what a badass move. You people really need to learn not to tempt fate with your spoken-word confidence. Too bad for you he doesn't need his eyes to see! DYNAMIC FINISH. Froppy a cute! A little disappointed we didn't get to see the other internships besides the important ones, but hey, there's always next week. Say what you will about him, but it's nice to see Jamie win for once. DRAGONBALL SUPER - I definitely blame Goku for the secondary crisis last episode, not because he lied about the 10 million zeni prize, but because he failed to tell Piccolo that he told some of the others that lie. It was him pointing out that it was a lie that brought the whole mess on, after all. I must ask, why is the episode title text in the Japanese version so huge compared to the English? Too close, Krillin. You make some very solid, if not questionable, points there, Goku. God Ian Sinclair is a great VA. And if either of you fail, Beerus could just Hakai him, he had no qualms about Hakaiing Krillin earlier. King Kai lives in Otherworld, so of course Goku can just teleport there at will. Who the fuck is that imp over there? Nobody tells King Yemma nothin'. SUPER DUPER SERIAL. Considering the Tournament of Power will be in the Neutral Space... yeah, somewhere besides Earth sounds good. To HFIL! "...and get some fire in your belly!" Fire in your back, you mean. Literally "back tingles". Why am I always surprised at how thin Cabba is? ARE YOU FEELING IT NOW, MR. KRABS? Clearly she's trying too hard to transform. Does it count as being racist if the Saiyans themselves are the ones calling each other various monkey and primate names? These two should just fuck already. Turns out sadness and self-doubt is her trigger. FEM BROLY! It's a little something we like to call "Legendary Super Saiyan". Random eyecatches! I had a feeling that imp was a spy. Welcome to Hell for those who'd actually like the base flavor. It's his tree. WEN KALE? You can't not love watching Fem!Broly in action. You really lucked out this time, Cabba. Everybody can do the Destructo Disk, it seems. [threatening neck cracks] That was a surprisingly quick turnaround. I'm surprised Chris Ayres can still scream like that after getting his lungs replaced. That palms-open pose is honestly pretty cool. The good news is you can ring people out, so you can at least pretend they're dead once they're outta bounds. BABA KNOWS ALL. I don't think I've seen her place before, so it's actually a surprise to know she lives out in the desert. Which universe was the yellow rat from again? "...the 4th Universe..." Thanks, narrator. The Japanese version of Boogie Back is actually kinda nice. MEGALOBOX - I like that ref's traffic officer helmet; it's a nice touch. Like that, a nickname is born. It's still my personal belief that those things he's snacking on are wasabi peas. "Gearless? Are you serious?" SEMI-BULLHORN. I wonder if that guy's actually ever murdered someone in the ring. SHIT COUNT: 1. How ironic that the one time Nanbu doesn't want him to take the fall, he's down for real. REPLY TO ANGEL 2: "I'm pretty sure Joe's got a concussion." Oh, so that's what that POV effect is... Unintentional comic relief is the best comic relief. Heh, pulled him back just to give him his mouthguard. I assume this father had a temporary case if constadeath, considering his head is Abe Lincoln. Damn, these fighting sports crowds are savage. Hey, that's a wrestling move! Clearly the thing to do is force him to use up the rest of his fouls. "Your strategy is bad and you should feel bad!" Well at least he's trying to hold back, unlike your average kid. So the solution is, don't listen to your brain! Hot damn these fights really leave you no room for comment. And so the stealth supporters finally show themselves. What a dump, this place. Sleep-insulting. [cue the Montage song] This is a good way to get past all the obvious wins. She recognizes that guy! Cool name, so which one of you's the titular "Nowhere Man"? Speak of the Devil x 2. This can't be good if even Nanbu's scared shitless. BLACK CLOVER - Welcome to season 2, bitches! Narrator, you should know damn well that Finral ran off to hit on random women instead of joining the others in their report. "My mouth is moving, but no words seem to be coming out..." [boners for Yuno intensify] God this show's opening themes are great. TRIPLE STAAAAAARE. For someone whose screentime is mostly eating, Charmy's pretty fun when it counts. Oh Yami, you truly are the saving grace for this show's haters. Asta's shoujo eyes creep him right the fuck out. Wait, when did that one guy make that armor for himself? I, too, liked Bell better when she wasn't able to talk. "I'm surrounded by idiots." Oh hey, I remember these guys. A steam snail? Oh it's mucus, that is so much worse. Good job causing property damage while taking out that guy, Finral's brother. He's Dimestore Griffith, standing still and being creepy is what he does. "Welp, there goes my magic." Sucks to be Lotus. He speaks for the trees, and the trees say the Diamond Kingdom sucks. REPLY TO ANGEL 3: "Isn't this how Fern Gully ended?" Either that or A Troll in Central Park. Mysteltainn, you say... Squirrels are dicks. Two gimmicks at once are better than five-plus, change my mind. And then Yami was Tarzan. You lost so many soldiers because you were distracted, numb-nuts. PERFECT LANDING, 10/10. [boners for Yuno resume intensifying] Beauty has no place in a magic dogfight. Oh yeah, it has been a while since they last saw one another. Truly they're the friendliest of the three teenage Shonen Jump rivalries on the block. Good looks for days. Oh Klaus, you so tsundere. He may not have his arms open, but he can always kick. You're way out of your league here, ginger Hercule. And then he was a tree. SUDDENLY LOTUS. And Yami too! "That's my name, don't wear it out." Regardless of what the doujins say, Yami's straight as a board. JOESTAR SECRET TECHNIQUE, GO! That really is a nice view from up here. He's not a cute girl, so him unmasking don't bother me none. This ED is pretty catchy in itself. HUNTER x HUNTER - Of all the non-ant characters in this arc I'd have expected to get character development, Palm was one of the last. That said, good for her! Knuckle what the hell are you doing. If that means he can still beat his ass without prejudice, then that's fine by him. Trust me, dude, Gon's mind isn't gonna be at ease for a loooooooong while. That's very unlike Pouf to just want to talk. You're not even part of this conflict, and yet you still drive a very hard bargain, Gon. That is the most disturbing O-face I've ever seen. SHAIAPOUF, OUT! His decision to get outta dodge isn't the only thing that's disturbing around here. Pitou may be a cat, but Gon's a tiger in comparison. That kid is way smarter than he lets on. This arc is all about the mental chess. You have so little faith in your so-called subordinates, Netero, and that's what's truly disturbing around here. The King really needs some shoes. MEDITATION TIME. Netero is the true master of the one-hit KO. ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA! I can tell what you're saying is deep, but I can't tell exactly what it means. Welcome to the underground tomb, with open bar. If it's specifically for him, it must've taken a damn long time to construct. THE HEART. I never even noticed that alien astronaut butt in the corner before. NARUTO SHIPPUDEN - Why can't more fillers be cozy like this? -

PokeNirvash replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
Someone in the ANN forums claimed they weren't going to watch it because it was Dogakobo and they assumed it'd be more loli pedo stuff, without even bothering to read what the manga being adapted was even about. Then they got deleted after a couple people roasted them. The absolute principality of the anime community over there. -
Hana no Uta's better anyways, from what I hear. If you watch that next, make sure to see the Hoshi no Umi OVA between episodes 8 and 9. Don't make the same mistake I did and skip it by accident.

Tonight on Toonami, Goku heads to Otherworld to recruit Lord Freeza of all people as their tournament team replacement, the person behind the Ghost Incidents reveals themselves by way of siccing a beast on the village, we get a look on what the rest of Class 1-A (but mostly Tsuyu) have been doing during internship week, Mob and Teru begin their mission to rescue Ritsu from the clutches of the Claw Organization, Nanbu's plan to get Joe through Megalonia is so crazy that he might get killed, Josuke and Okuyasu discover the most surreptitious get-rich-quick scheme ever thanks to another stray STAND user, the Golden Dawn go as all-out as they can afford in their battle against the invading Diamond Kingdom, let's get back to the Netero vs. King fight before the audience starts getting bored with all the 4D chess going on elsewhere, and yes, this week's Shippuden filler does in fact take place off the boat. Also Phantom Spaceman at 5AM, because even if it is technically comedy, I still think Venture Bros. has enough action and plot to qualify for an occasional grouping in with the shows of ACTN past and Toonami present. 11:00 - Dragonball Super #93 - You're Our Tenth Warrior! Jokes on you, grad school and finishing Kinky Kunoichi kept me from watching Kagura past episode 3. I'm still amazed I managed to put aside time for my weekly dose of Tonegawa.
