2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
Jman replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
If they’re complicit with MAGA and it goes down to defeat, their grift is gone. The GOP can’t exist the way it does unless it goes back to saying the quiet part quiet lest an actual Conservative Party, as in real, Nixon-era conservatism, not Reagan era “fuck you, got mine” conservatism, be formed from the ashes of disillusioned party supporters who weren’t on board with sharing the space with conspiracy theorists. https://www.yahoo.com/news/taylor-swift-harris-walz-endorsement-003928947.html Meanwhile, the Swifty registration continues to skyrocket. -

Lazarus got DeMarco to host, meanwhile the War of Rohirrim panel is being hosted by Stephen Colbert. Gonna try to go to both. -
2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences

If The Apprentice is to be believed, Roy Cohn essentially preached an absolute form of perception becomes reality and manifestation. Essentially, if you keep repeating something over and over again, and utterly refuse to acknowledge anything that says otherwise, it will become true, at least to the public viewpoint. Or to paraphrase another author - The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. -

Well if nothing else, Taylor Swift did get a significant amount of registrations. It also helps that the so-called Red Wave of 2022 fizzled out thanks to younger voters. -

That's been their platform since Obama broke their brains. "We can endure endless suffering for our reward, but fuck those people getting a cent more!" Meanwhile the elites are counting their yachts. -
I think you need to hit Issue #12 (one year's worth of books) before talking adaptation, but yeah, this is pretty good. if Toonami still exists this time next year, they could shop this comic around to studios and potentially have a hit action cartoon that indulges in a pulp aesthetic not used a lot these days. Next issue meanwhile, has Robo Corp bringing in their best agent, Moltar. Yup, Moltar gets to be serious now.

https://www.billboard.com/culture/politics/stevie-nicks-taylor-swift-endorse-kamala-harris-1235772488/ While it likely won’t affect the registration as much as Swift did, Stevie Nicks has joined the endorsement parade. https://www.vanityfair.com/style/story/taylor-swift-kamala-harris-endorsement-donations-donald-trump Meanwhile the Swift endorsement has led to a sharp uptick in donations. -

https://dailyboulder.com/trump-chickens-out-of-another-debate-with-harris-citing-feeble-excuses-in-truth-social-rant/ Trump claimed victory on Truth Social, then refused a second debate. This when even Fox News’s panel said he lost. -

He was laughing at this. You know, like how Trump was laughing at all those buildings that fell because it meant his building was one of the tallest by default. ”Our conspiracy theories didn’t work, so let’s conspiracy theory our way to getting everyone to support Trump after a debate where it looked like he was sundowning on national television!” -

Apparently neck ties can restrict blood flow to the brain if put on too tightly. Just pointing that out. -

Well, if it’s not a repeat of Joe that’s a plus. But I guess her strategy is to not get distracted. -

I’m going to watch baseball and the Contender Series. I expect it to upset me either way considering the kids gloves Trump is treated with. -

The debate is tonight and at this point, I’m pretty sure so long as Trump doesn’t void his bowels on stage (and even if he does) he’ll be declared the winner and have that smug shit face of his on the papers tomorrow. Nothing may oppose the horse race narratives. Not when Politico’s head is saying shit like this. -

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice - 7.5/10. I think Burton’s problem in a lot of his films is that he forces his Burtonness into projects that feel stiff as a result. Here it’s much more natural Burton tropes and jokes, resulting in a movie that while not as funny as the first, is still plenty funny. That and it was just nice to see a lot of these actors again (except the guy who played Charles in the first one because fuck him). I also think if Burton sticks to his desire not to make a third movie, Warner will probably make a new cartoon. So look forward to Beetlejuice is Loose on Max in 2026.
