  1. It's going to take a long time, if ever, to stop wondering if the majority of people around me are one of the three type of trump voters: Idiots, Assholes or Lunatics. I live in a state that gave him more than 60% of the vote last time and a country that gave him more than half. I've really lost any sort of faith that Americans have wised up or are even paying attention (which it seems most of them really aren't). If DJT isn't there, what's to stop the next authoritarian opportunist to find that sore to poke that fires up people to go to the voting booth and punch themselves in the teeth and be happy about it? We're going to be stuck with future president-kings because of the supreme court, whose composition is probably not going to change for a very long time. Righwing and Social Media are still going to be allowed to spread disinfo and propaganda due to "freedom of speech." Nobody is willing to put limits on AI, which is just going to keep blurring reality and fiction. Plus, a lot of the MAGA goons and billionaire sycophants are going to still be in the House and Senate for years to come. On top of that, there's no real will to do anything about it, just a bunch of people who think "we should've done that first!" I just might be having one of those days.
  2. I saw a video about Russia rehabilitating Stalin last week. It's so weird how Russians just accept the changes to that, or about anything. One person was like, "sometimes you have to do challenging things that hurt some people in order to make society better." I'd like to think that Americans are in general more vaccinated against such forms of thought policing, but reality itself is hard to gauge nowadays.
  3. I just brushed over it, but I wouldn't be surprised if these brothers voted for Trump. I work at a nonprofit and there we have a lot of Hispanic people who weren't born in the US or their parents weren't ... almost 90 percent of them said they planned to vote for Trump last year, this includes the women. It seems there was a lot of "well, I got mine and my so-and-so isn't a criminal so I'm good."
  4. "antisemitic, socialist, communist" If he said "woke" we would've had BINGO!
  5. I used to think of wearable tech to be stuff like self-cooling jackets, self-tying shoes and watches you could talk into. Developing a lot of the wearable tech he's speaking of sounds great, but I'm not going to trust an administration that wants to play big brother or an imbecile who said he wants to track all people who are on the spectrum.
  6. Sailor Moon Crystal with my 8 year old daughter.
  7. If Mamdani wins the mayor race, I hope the Democrats finally get the message. I don't have a lot of hope that they do. They've been throwing money at consultants, being afraid of polls and chasing the mythical moderate voters as far back as I can remember. I went to a local Democratic event here. It sucked. I think I might've been the only person there that wasn't one of the "patron of the arts" type or "your alphabetical cause on this Tee here" person that attended. There was poetry, some people selling tee shirts and other stuff. The state Democratic chair was there and he said "we're making some headway! Yay!" Pulled him aside later and asked what sort of state issues they're really pushing this year or even a vision for the state party. His reply was "well, we don't really have any issues, we just want some candidates." God damn, if you're a political party, at least have three or four things you can put on bumper stickers. I don't think "we got candidates!" is a fucking winner.
  8. We're in the middle ring of the circle and the highs are staying just below 95. Not as bad as last year but still terrible outside. Managed to get a little lawn stuff done in the morning and evening. Between that I took boxes to the recycler and made on of my two time a week appearances at my office. The air conditioning in my car seems to be dying so I wound up buying an iced pop for the first time in years.
  9. From what I heard, both Iran and Israel were needing to stock up on their offensive and defensive missiles. I don't think Israel is done with Iran and probably has the goal of regime change. I think they thought this may be the best time to strike and opportunities like this will diminish in the future. Reasons why: • If you buy into polls, the number of Americans who view Israel favorably has fallen below 50%. • Iran's strongest ally is stuck in a war in Ukraine & is not as able to back them up as before • Iran's proxies have taken a massive hit and have yet to regroup. I think the favorability with Americans may be the biggest worry for them. It may not have much of an impact on the next two or three election cycles, but as the demographic that supported Israel ages out of the electorate, the younger demographic changes and AIPAC's influence starts to receive backlash — it will probably begin to change. Probably not all the way to siding with Palestinians (if any are left) but to the point where they no longer receive American bombs. Where America goes, the Europeans will probably go too. I wouldn't be surprised if we see desperate acts against US leaders by the Mossad. Israel is worried. Netanyahu is also riding this opportunity to save himself and gain power by stoking ethnic nationalism.
  10. I'm really annoyed that the war of words is being treated like the main thing here instead of the fact that we have two emotionally and intellectually stunted people in charge of our lives. I even think my 16-year-old self may have been more emotionally stable than these two.
  11. Check out how loyalty pays off when Trump doesn't need your state's votes anymore: Source: GOP Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Arkansas Republican lawmakers urge Trump to reconsider denial of disaster relief
  12. I was wondering if anyone posted this. A lot of the click bait media are saying it's signs of alien life without the nuance that they're going to keep looking at it to see if what they saw is what they actually thought they saw and stuff like that. If it's twice the mass of earth and there's life, I kind of wonder if bipedal life is possible due to the high gravity. If complex life did form, we might be looking at a planet of squat four-plus legged animals crawling around. Kind of like a world of armadillos, millipedes and crocodiles. Imagine whatever the version of vegetation such a place has would be like, it'd probably be thicker than anything we know on earth. Truly large life would have to live in the oceans.
  13. Gaius. Dude got under my skin a few times but his novel length responses to every subject, no matter the significance, were overblown and unintentionally hilarious.
  14. Even at Head Start, I've seen people who've supported him and still believe he's looking out for them. It's either "he has a plan" or "he just doesn't know what's going on yet." The dude just does not care. He believes he's in a movie centered around him and we're all just extras. He doesn't see a homeless person and thing about "why are they there and what could help them get off the street," instead he sees something unpleasant to look at and wants it out of his view like litter in the gutter. It's like, he doesn't see poor kids and families as people, he sees them as objects the people closest to him detest and are forced to help against their will. Thanks to Fox News and the rightwing media, the underclass see themselves the way he sees them.
  15. They've been pretty successful with just saying "oops!" so far and almost everyone shrugging and moving on. I guess everyone saw it worked with Elon when he fired and rehired the people with the nukes and other similar crap. Now it's just "oops!" all the time and nothing happens. Maybe someone on trial for murder should just say "oops!" because it worked for the president. "He wound up in front of my gun at the moment I pulled the trigger while he was running for his life .... oops!"
  16. Also on the chopping block: Link: Trump Proposes Eliminating Low-Income Energy Assistance Program
  17. So, as someone who works for Head Start, this is kind of a direct threat. Don't know what it is with Republicans and libertarians/conservatives/capitalism-is-god people that makes them believe that money spend on government jobs or jobs funded my government grants just evaporates into the air. Stupid, I guess. Link: White House proposes eliminating Head Start funding as part of sweeping budget cuts
  18. I was Josey when I registered on ASMB in 2003. I was Zoombubba for a bit then got tired of it and went for a placeholder that I currently use. For some reason gained a following of people who like to follow me around and state that I did that. I'm triggering I guess, even though I have a life and no idea what it's about.
  19. He also likes to talk about his huge penis when he gets the chance.
  20. I knew who Ben Shaprio was because he seems to be everywhere. I've heard of the Daily Wire, I just wasn't aware that it was this big thing. I guess they even got into the movie production business? I guess if it goes out of business he has the usual options like Fox, OAN, NewsMax, begging for money on Twitter, begging for money for his Patreon on YouTube, getting paid by College Republicans to incite riots on university campuses, etc., etc.
  21. My wife and I went to a matinee and saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice last fall, that was my only adult movie trip since 2016 or something like that. Movies in general ... I usually take my kids to the $5 midday matinee of kid flicks the theatre runs during the summer. Will probably do it again this summer. I don't know if it was because I was a teen who went to the movies 1-2 times a week in the 90s but I just find the newer flicks too noisy, too cookie cutter and too fan servicey. I kind of liked going to the movies and watching Striptease one week and Independence Day the next and that being it instead of nonendings teasing the next sequel.
  22. So, what leadership model will you use? Cool and disciplined TV series Captain Kirk or hot headed and order disobeying Movie Captain Kirk?
  23. I prefer Death 'n' roll Entombed to Left Hand Path Entombed. Actually, I tried to like Left Hand Path Entombed and walked away bored.
  24. Explain what the Daily Wire is to me. Is it a blog or a podcast?
  25. Man, if only we had an agreement with other countries to circumvent China ... oh wait, we did have that agreement called the TPP and Trump torpedoed it.
